Last night I went out for a beer to my new neighborhood bar. They do a lot of lounge/ coffee house music for a crowd that is at least twenty years younger than I am. The last thing I was expecting was karaoke but in walks this girl with a little something-something under her arm (apparently her player) and the bartender announced ominously "its begun."

She made some announcements and distributed books and began to sing. The sound was horrible, and she wasn't a particularly dynamic singer, the long and the short of it was the crowd ignored her. I wanted to help but I thought it would be rude. What do you think?

The best help would be singing and helping the crowd get into it inspite of the sound. You could then befriend her and offer advice if she seemed open to it.

I look at it this way: each KJ is the captain of their own "Karaoke ship" and it's never my place to inject into their business (unless it's Bazza - he likes it) so I just watch. If the sound really sucks, I'll not sing, I'll just watch...

Yeah, but what if she was really "hot" and you were feeling a bit sorry for her?
