Sorry for asking such a simple question. I'm totally new to this. My wife and I like to do Japanese karaoke. I tried using one of the online sites, Redkaraoke, but it totally sucks. So I'd like to try to setup my own software and songlist at home. I don't want to spend a lot of money on this because it's just a casual hobby. Can anyone point me in the right direction for purchasing Japanese karaoke files? Also, I prefer "real" music, not midi files. Seems like the midi files are really different sometimes...

I'm in Milwaukee area. Not a big karaoke market I think. But we drive to Chicago on a regular basis. Maybe there are some shops there?

Forgot to answer the "what". I like recent Jpop like Kobukuro and Exile. My wife likes mostly newer stuff also, but some older pop classics. Not enka though.

I've tried making my own karaoke with the vocal removing software and manually adding in the lyrics, but it really is a PITA and the result isn't so good. Jpop often has instrumental tracks attached to the CD, but I think they are often a little different than the normal version, so the vocals don't align.

Vocal removing tools work "Not So Good" and leave unanswered, the legality issues.

Better to purchase real disks from places like "Ace Karaoke"

<-- Link is over there..

I think I visited them 2 years ago when I was in LA. Pretty small shop, but had a lot of discs. I didn't see much for jpop music. Mostly enka.

Yes go to ACEKARAOKE.com ....they have many foreign language discs. Also buy one of their home machines---that should do the trick for ya!
