Questions posed from the Venue owners Point of View

Why should I hire you instead of the other guy?
What do you bring to the table that the other guy doesn’t?
But the other guy is cheaper…..so why go with you?

I'd tell you, but that's a trade secret.

1:* legal quality library
* ability to add legal music without connecting to internet
* reliability record
* guaranteed fair rotation
* always friendly attitude.
* up to date with the most forward thinking technology in the business
* Certified by both SC and CB protecting any venue I play at from lawsuits.
2: see #1

3: The other guy does not provide you the security of knowing that you won't be named in a trademark lawsuit which will cost you more than what you pay me to provide the same service without cutting corners like getting rid of the better quality tracks because the manufacturers of those tracks want their money that is owed them for providing those tracks which my competition is unwilling to pay. The majority of my competition got their music either by purchasing a loaded hard drive or making multiple copies of one library to fill their multiple systems.

I agree with all but this one. I've seen KJs running a free version of winamp and singers still flock to their shows. As long as you have all you mentioned and the sound system sounds great, and the KJ isn't a jerk and he or she keeps the show moving and everyone is happy, that's all that really matters. I personally like software that does do a little more of the work for me, but I also know that isn't what makes the singers happy. It just makes my job a little easier.

The same is true with audio hardware. I bought a used M-One on eBay for $90 and it makes the vocals sound great. I've seen another KJ go out and spend like $700 on the latest and greatest vocal processor and it didn't sound as good as my used M-One. You can have the most "forward thinking" technology but it doesn't guarantee anything. You just need to be a KJ with common sense thinking. Don't get me wrong, I love technology, but I also try to keep a clear head as to its role and I have to remind myself that isn't what makes the show. Technology used well can help make a show run more smoothly, but no one needs the "most" forward thinking technology. That is a great misconception in my opinion.

Mr. Reverb modestly forgot to tell you about the included exotic dancing he performs to "I'm Sexy and I Know It." But then that requires extra peanuts.

:lol: Funny you should mention extra peanuts.....many years ago, I starred in a D movie(two steps under a B movie, and D for, if someone was dumb enough to go see it)....It was a movie about an Alien that came to Earth, who had "three" peanuts.....It was called E.T. the Extra Testicle.... :)

The winner of this trivia question (in my mind) is:

(drum roll please....)

twansenne!

Danny,
Most of your reasons "to hire you" were about "not getting sued" and not positive points. Bar owners really don't care if you whistle the instrumentals with your rear end as long as you can make them money.

What you are selling is no different than what SC is selling -- fear. Fear that if they don't hire you, they might get sued.

Most of your reasons are simply "hire me and you won't get sued."

If I was a bar owner, I simply wouldn't have karaoke at all.

Danny, I agree to what Danny said. When you're selling yourself, just sell yourself.... not bad-mouth your competition. IMO, talking about the possibilities of being sued may just turn the bar off to karaoke all together.

You said you've been hosting for a year and a half, how about sharing your answers?

@earthling12357 - I can't really provide qualkified answers here because I have only had one show a week at the same place since I started hosting. Also, the venue approached me about hosting instead of me pitching to them. So not the typical means of getting a show.

However, now that I am ready to expand I will offer up some of the things I am working on for my pitch.

Why should I hire you instead of the other guy?

Well, I don't know much about the other guy, but let me tell you about me. I have been a singer all my life. I know what sounds good and what doesn't. I use that ear to help the singers at my show sound as good as possible and give the audience something they can enjoy.

I have also invested my time and my money to ensure that there is quality equipment and I know how to use it. You can give anyone a Formula 1 car, but very few know how to drive it properly. I have invested in high quality equipment and I have invested my time in knowing how to operate it.

I also do more that just karaoke. If you have a special event that you want someone to run or you need an MC, please let me know.

What do you bring to the table that the other guy doesn’t?

Again, I don't know everything about the other guy, but I can tell you that my show is 100% legal. What does that mean? It means that you, as a venue operator, are not at risk because of me and my show. All of the music has been obtained legally and I have gone the extra mile to get certified by the major industry players to ensure that I am compliant. That protects me and protects you. I am happy to show you all receipts, certificates and any other documentation to show that I am not using pirated music to run my show. Again, this protects me AND you.
But the other guy is cheaper…..so why go with you?

I also give you input into how the shows operates. Every bar is different and every bar has different clientele. I enjoy your feedback on what seems to be working and what is not. As you listen to your patrons, please communicate to me what they like and what they don't and I will tweak what I am doing to ensure we try to accomodate everyone's needs.

But the other guy is cheaper…..so why go with you?

I can only explain my pricing and why I charge what I do. But I would encourage you to go back to the other guy and ask why they charge less. Inquire about their equipment, experience, song selection, and importantly, ask if they are legal. If they say yes, kindly ask them to prove it. If they can't prove it to you in 24 hours, then please, give me a call - I can.

One thing I will offer is to do a show for you at a steeply discounted rate (or even for free) to prove to you that I can deliver what I am promising. I can even promise you that for that test show I can draw a crowd by leveraging my existing network of singers. But it does take commitment on your part to allow an audience to grow and thrive over time.

Ultimately, if you are on a budget we could potentially work something out, but I will not compromise on quality or service which is the primary reason why I expect to be paid what I am asking for.

-----------------------

And that is *part* of my pitch. I have a lot more I am working on, some of which I am willing to post here once the time is right.

-Chris

Local KJ in my area will offer to do a show from 8-midnight. At 10pm if you want him to pack up and leave he will and there will be no charge for his 2 hour show. If he stays he gets paid in full. Not once has anyone asked him to leave early.
