to store karaoke songs IN WINDOWS XP OR 7 , Which could be the best HDD format : FAT32 OR NTFS ?

NTFS is the default File System for Windows based operating systems and has been since Windows XP.

I would recommend NTFS for a bunch of arcane technical reasons that no one will care about. But I also recommend it for:

NTFS allows for larger drives and partitions - Thus allowing more data to be stored in a single location (great for massive libraries)
NTFS Volumes can be expanded (or even shrunk) within the operating system (no 3rd party apps needed)
NTFS Volumes can be mirrored, spanned, RAIDed all with the Operating System
Forward compatibility - NTFS is what is used by default for Windows 7 and will also be used in Windows 8

And my favorite -

If you have Windows Vista or Windows 7, you can (and should!) use BitLocker (a feature built into Windows) on the drive to encrypt the contents. That way if the drive is ever stolen, the music (and any other data on the drive) is encrypted and rendered unusable. This helps prevent watermarked music and any other personal data you have stored there from making it into the wild and into the hands of the bad guys.

Fat32 by technical standards is old. Some usb players like Cavs require the fat32 format or they won't recognise the hard drive or files. I can't remember if win2000 can use NTFS, but anything before that can't. Guess there could be exceptions, and I'm sure someone will correct me, since I'm far from a expert on the subject. I try.

Windows 95 through Windows Me were all FAT16/FAT32 no NTFS support
Windows 2000 can use FAT and NTFS.

If anyone is using ANY of the above operating systems still, I want to remind you.....it is 2011.

Thanks to all of you for yor response, and here is another question:

Will NTFS format works perfectly for old and new karaoke files ?

This question is because in WINXP (NTFS format) all the karaoke songs works
perfectly but in my WIN7 notebook some doesn't works (error) and appear as winzip or winrar files..

There are subtle differences in the underlying components of NTFS but files themselves are fully portable across all versions of NTFS. Any errors you have will be a result of a problem in the file copy process *or* the result of bad blocks on the hard drive itself.

My bank still uses 2000 Pro.
I used it up until about 4 years ago. It was hard to change .
