Earlier in the fall, I purchased a small digital Sony recorder with both a built-in microphone, and a line input.
I bought it mainly to review, and critique my hosting skills... and for that alone, it's already paid for itself... (Gotta cut back on "All Right!!!" and "How About That!!!")
But I was surprised at the quality of the recording when played back through a fairly decent sound card. I have it set at 192 Kbs, and with the exception of a certain amount of background noise from the crowd, the reproduction is far better than expected.
It's so good in fact, that after recording and saving several weeks worth of shows, I took a couple of days to retrieve and edit a bunch of tracks from some of my regular singers... burned them to CDs... and gave them their own personal CDs as Christmas presents... Unfortunately, I seemed to have created a monster... Now it appears almost everybody wants one..
But, to get back to my original point... I've found that I'm seeing improvement in my hosting skills by reviewing what I've been doing and changing a few things. Apparently old dogs really can learn new tricks.

5 4 3 2 1......
Just wait it will happen.... © But as far as recording, I have done it a couple times @ shows, just on the output of the mixer. Only recorded my wife though for her benefit. Never though about recording the "Host Chatter". Good idea!

I have a digital recorder too... brought to work a couple times and recorded singers straight off the mixer.... I didn't tell them I did it either.
A few of them were so good, I used them as bumper music..... the look on their face(s) when they realized it was their own voice a few weeks later was priceless...
Then I'd email them the mp3....

Sure wish I knew how to insert an image here... I have a great one depicting a "Wet Blanket"...
