I need to clarify that when I say "music publishers", I'm not referring to the karaoke producers who make the karaoke music and CDs. I'm talking about the publishers that represent the record labels and original artists. So, the greed is not in the karaoke industry. The American karaoke song makers like Sound Choice and Chartbuster would LOVE to offer inexpensive downloads. They just can't, and the American music publishers are completely to blame because they have the karaoke makers hands tied by not allowing them to offer downloads like they do in other countries.

Oh well. We can just buy them overseas. That's what I do. I won't buy a lot of redundant CD+Gs. I don't want 10,000 dupes, trips, and more. I want only what gets requested, after I get a good amount to start with. If American music publishers won't allow the companies here to modernize, I will shop elsewhere. They are just hurting our manufacturers, which could end up hurting the publishers.

Unfortunately buying overseas COULD hurt over here especially if the club isn't paying their PRO fees, the kj could also be sued in that respect. I've already seen it just with US licensed tracks but the bar wasn't paying. We had a club in our state sued which included the KJ due the tracks he had as well. And that had nothing to do with karaoke manus - it was the music in general.

So what's the difference? Domestic, foreign, if the club isn't paying the club isn't paying. It's not the KJ's responsibility to pay the fees.

Some places just won't pay any fees or taxes.
I know of one that just shut down that owes over 20k in back taxes alone. I also know that he had lots of fees that he owes for allowing smoking when there wasnt supposed to be any. It would not suprize me if he did not pay any of the fees for the music either. He just did not want to pay "the government" anything and was not afraid to say it and now he has no business.

Ah yes, must have been a Teabagger. LOL. If he didn't like the government before, he must REALLY hate it now!!

I guess this exonnerates Kurt when people complained he didn't "stay up with technology" by offering downloads. I guess he was correct when he said he wasn't allowed.

no, CB did it with mp3+g discs, SD cards and JKMP, PHM does it with mp3+g discs SD cards, but SC can only rent mp3+g content?
go light a black and red candle at your shrine of Kurt and grab a clean sock.
remember, even Harrington said it can be done.

just to post info directly from PRS received in a email.

"The SG6 licence does not cover online rights, so for a download service such as this you would need to apply for the LOML+, details of which can be found at http://www.prsformusic.com/users/broadc ... fault.aspx
Just to confirm this licence covers the UK only. If companies are looking to target the US for example, they would need to approach the US society for a licence."

Since the publishers in the US do not have a licence for downloads this makes downloads NOT possible. This could change in the future IF publishers were to allow licencing.
Feel free to verify my info.

Athena
PS you may wish to look your candle colors up....I'm certain you didnt know what you were saying with that.....LOL and I would never need a clean sock

That wasn't directed at you Athena.
And apparently Harrington lied. Guess that is what I get for taking the word of Kurys lawyer.

unfortunately, i don't see things improving vastly until a lawsuit gets filed and goes all the way. slightly different topic but the only reason there is a license to media and format shift for djs in Canada is because a DJ got sued, went all the way and won. Unfortunately his life was totally ruined in the process.

Wish I could remember the particulars.. Guess i'll have to ask the president of the CDJA.

The other way to affect change would be to stage a wide scale boycott. Get a large group of people to promise not to buy ANYTHING from places like itunes, amazon etc for a week to send the music producers a message .

It would never happen tho, not enough people care to make a difference

that is a major problem, not enough people care to make a difference. our business is no different, the singers don't care how you get their song, just as long as you get it. they don't care if the guy down the street has stolen all 200,00 of his songs and even if he stole the gear with "property of xxxx" on the side. so few people anymore have any kind of morals or care about anything but what can get them what they want right now. getting people to not buy from i-tunes for a few minutes would be putting them out and why would they do that? what does it get them right now?
