Latshaw Systems just made facebook post verifying information from Digitrax... http://www.facebook.com/LatshawSystems I won't quote them, but you can all read it yourself. I do remember someone commenting and telling them they're weren't right and supposedly had an email from Digitrax saying different, but at least they had the decency to pull it in the meantime and double verify it. I too was a little baffled at the initial removal, but at least it makes sense now.

Latshaw Systems wrote: Just an update.
On a previous post, we indicated that on a phone call with Digitrax, they confirmed that they would be offering MP3+G downloads on their new site when it goes live in the next few weeks, and that these were normal MP3+G files without any expiration or encryption. However, someone made the comment that they were told differently in an email from Digitrax, so until I could verify it, I did take the post down and did take the time to confirm the information.
They will indeed be offering unencrypted MP3+G downloads with tracks from American producers. This now makes two of the top people at Digitrax who have now confirmed this. Please pass this on as we've viewed some of the talk on karaoke forums and there is a lot of misinformation out there. With our facebook page which is relatively new, this new forum of public dialog with our users is a wonderful thing, but we're now seeing that we also have a responsibility to make sure that people aren't posting comments with incorrect information. Lesson learned.
In the future, if anyone makes an untruthful statement that can't be proven, we will delete it the first time with a warning. Any second offense will result in being banned from our facebook page without warning. It's unfortunate that we have to start implementing rules like this, but we can't keep defending ourselves every time someone wants to contradict us with misinformation. We have a responsibility to give you all accurate information and will continue to do so, but we just don't have time to constantly monitor people who are spreading incorrect information.
We welcome all of your opinions, but if you think we've made an error, we ask that you first private message us so that we can first have the opportunity to verify it. If we're wrong, we'll be the first to correct it, but just please be careful what you say, not just on our page, but on all the public forums you visit. Truth is a precious thing and it's far too easily twisted. Great news!

Great insight from Latshaw - very well put especially in the last paragraph. "like"!

Did Digitrax make any distinctions as far as if these would be okay for show use vs. just for home use? There are already sites offering home use downloads so the big breakthrough would be downloads for show use. I know some out there believe there is no distinction but was just curious as to what Digitrax might have said for those of us who don't want to be grey area.

Well my 60 days aren't up yet so I can't tell you what I saw on their site but maybe someone that got in a little earlier can say it.

well this will be fantastic news if it turns out to be true, especially if Soundchoice is going to be one of the content providers.
It really is the best solution for everyone, the kj gets the tracks they want and can keep forever even if they get pulled later, the music publishers get a level of tracking/accountability that they have wanted, and the karaoke publisher just sells their content. Let the other company worry about licencing the downloads for commercial sale, all they have to do is collect their money for whatever gets sold.

The current beta testing is for the consumer side, not the pro side. There are significant differences between the two.

-Chris What is to prevent a "home user" from setting up in a bar just as guitar hero or the Wii stations were? A "possible lawsuit?"

The Pro version has been discussed (in theory only so far) in the videos from the Summit. Its implementation is completely different from the Beta version on the site. There is no online interface with the Pro version as being discussed.
It seems like a "cease and desist" would have to be used if a home user went into a bar...plus once it was determined (I guess a pattern of weekly, late-night, 4-5 hour block of useage could help determine that), then their subscription could be shut down. Yes, it is evident that this is one way of accomplishing the control that they seem to be seeking....

I noticed how many times the word; "Monetize" was used..... and especially Kurt claiming that "enforcement is a sales tool." doowhatchulike wrote: It seems like a "cease and desist" would have to be used if a home user went into a bar...plus once it was determined (I guess a pattern of weekly, late-night, 4-5 hour block of useage could help determine that), then their subscription could be shut down. It would be like saying; "We noticed you using our service as a customer on a regular basis.... and therefore we're no longer keeping you as a customer - BECAUSE you use our service on a regular basis."Another big point continually brought up by Digitrax in the video stream was "tracking."

-Chris Really you know this just how? I have beta tested what they have up and well let's just say it doesn't fit my needs yet! I know this because I am also in the DigiTrax Beta, and because I watched the demo that Ryan did during the summit. They are different systems, different plans, different markets. I am also in contact with other people on these programs. -Chris

Athena Well, one of two things should happen when the karaoke cloud goes live. Either Latshaw is going to have to make a post basically saying "sorry, we were lied to", or Athena is going to post an apology saying the same. Ironically, I don't see either happening, but I'm going to side against the most "least likely to happen" public relations nightmare. Athena, I don't know you from Adam, but I do know that a big company like Digitrax wouldn't do something so stupid as to make a false promise to another company that has thousands of KJs around the world as its customers, and Latshaw Systems has no motivation to falsely raise the hopes of its customers only to let them down about a project that they have no vested interest in. Call me crazy, but I have to go on the side of logic here. It is certainly possible that both Athena and Latshaw are correct in the sense that Latshaw heard that unencrypted downloads were going to be offered and Athena heard that they don't have the license to offer karaoke downloads in the U.S., so, maybe they are offering downloads, but only to customers outside the U.S.? Again, logic has to trump here and assume that after two phone calls for verification, one would assume that Digitrax made Latshaw aware of that distinction. If they didn't, that was really stupid on their part.

Karaokelan,
I am human and I do make mistakes and/or misinterpret information. There are at least a couple of situations where I was wrong on this forum(and I had no trouble admitting it). I ALWAYS apologize and set things right. If this is ends up being a situation where I am wrong I will have no problem doing so again. I do not think Digitrax lied to anybody....I truly think there was a disconnect between what was said and what was heard...and that lead to a misunderstanding PERIOD. In life I think we have ALL been in positions where we heard something inherently different than what was said. I am not trying to "demonize" anyone...it is my personal mission to try and insure that through information is posted for every KJ...that way they can weigh all the info and decide how much liability they are willing to accept.
