I want to do karaoke thru my laptop. I am not a KJ, it's just a hobby and pasttime. I bought the Power CD+G Burner, downloaded the free home version of Virtual DJ and trial version of Siglos Karaoke Professional software.

There was someone on YouTube, who said to rip your CD+G's to an external hard drive using Power CD+G Burner. He said to record CD+G and MP3 together, and mentioned zipping the files afterward. I am confused. I noticed that you can also rip your CDG's to a zip file. I have recorded most of my CDG's ripping them in both formats together. But I am now considering re-formatting my external hard drive, which of course would erase what I have recorded thus far, but then ripping all the songs to a zip file. :thinkin: :?

Am I putting the cart before the horse, is it overkill? I've noticed a difference in the way the zipped file displays the artist and song, and that it is different than copying to CDG & MP3 format.

Thank you in advance.

The ripper will create both the .CDG and the .MP3 files for you at the same time. To ZIP, or not to ZIP is really personal preference and has nothing to do with how the files are named. With hard discs sizes today, it's no longer about saving space.

Thank you Bazza. You are correct. I don't know what I was thinking. In fact, my hard drive has 500 GB, more than enough space and then some, ten times over. I just wanted to be consistent. :)

Even with all the space, I have all mine Zipped as it does cut the number of files in half. But it's just my preference...it makes no difference to my software.
