but it seems the ARE working for the KJ.

Seems to me like the KJ will be working for them @ $99.00 or $199.00 a month. Bet I could buy a lot of discs for $1,200 or $2,400 a year.

If I were a start up KJ this would be very appealing to me if I were on a limited budget.

***Conversation with Gretchen I had (and already posted but seems it was missed here)***
" We are working on a hard drive that you can unlock songs you need when you need them as requested"

This seems to me as though they are working pretty hard to help all KJ's, new and old

I should also add that they are trying to combat the "home user" from taking their show on the road and using it in a pro situation. I was informed that the Home version is of much lower quality and will not be legible on a large screen as it will distort when tried.
Obviously this will not stop everyone but it is at least an attempt on their part to keep it as intended

To finalize my conversations about the cloud and digitrax they are offering the KJ a very unique way of getting some extra revenue. As I stated earlier, per Ala-cart you may purchase the new hits monthly package. They have a "credit card" with different package amounts for purchase. $20, $40 etc. you get the point. We the KJ can purchase these and have them at our shows. Each card has a unique number assigned to the KJ that purchased it, as your customers buy them from you and enter it into the cloud web site, we are instantly earning money. They can now log into the cloud and practice Karaoke from their phones, be it iphone or android. They can take it into the bathroom and practice, come back and sing it. Furthermore, at this point when they log into their account and purchase more time etc. we will continue to receive a percentage of their money spent. Meaning once they have entered the original card we sold them it has our info on it and they are forever our customer

We can buy these at a reduced rate and then sell them .....OR, why not give the cheaper ones away as prizes or whatever? Get them hooked at home, they BUY more time and then we make $$

we signed up for the "cloud" sales program and will be buying the "gift cards" within a few days. Simptech has slightly misunderstood this part of the program. Yes you can purchase the cards at a discount and sell or give them to your customers. The cards are good for differing numbers of months of "home Cloud use" on different types devices. This is sort of similar to the karaoke channel that is offered on many cable systems(with the added benefits of being able to use a potable device). Yes you do receive residuals if people continue to purchase the service after the "gift card" expires.

I am awaiting clarification on the "new monthly hits" al la cart program mentioned.....no-one I have spoken with at Digitrax seems to have heard about this being an option....however I am awaiting replies to a few more emails/messages left. It is my assumption that there is some disconnect in information within the Digitrax organization.

I think it will be a good thing if they are able to come up with a "MediaPro TYPE' drive that allows for legal unlocking of songs on an as needed basis...this would be of use to established hosts as well as "newbies"

I wish nothing but the best for Digitrax and hope they are able to make lots of money on whatever product they produce.....I am all for supporting manufactures in the U.S.A

It looks like the majority of the manufacturers that you'll be "supporting" are not U.S. manufacturers. And so far, I don't know that Digitrax has produced anything other than re-packaged chartbuster material.

As I have stated before. I like the concept, IF its at the right price. This is too expensive for me.

NOW your talking! I would be all over this if it gives me ala-carte "KJPro" type delivery of SC songs not already on the GEM set.

i would be up for this idea, absolutely. buy what i need whn i need it.

sidethought, i wonder if they will grandfather in the CB HDpro customers to the new updated format. would be a nice gesture and olive branch to those currently stranded with the old drive.

I think the idea is a "MediaPro type " HD not using the "MediaPro" owned by Compuhost....but I could be misinterpreting so I do not wish to state this as fact

Ok now I'm confused. Chartbuster used to sell two kind of drives. The first was either 6 or 12K of songs on one hard drive, and then there was the KJMP drive which was designed by invicion but the drives were sold by chartbuster.

I wonder which one soundchoice is planning to put out. My money is on the one entire library of songs.

In which case, people like Bazza won't benefit at all.

yes James CB did sell two different products...the first was the CB12000 it was sold on a HD as that many tracks would not fit on a single SD card all of the song were available when you purchased the drive and it was labeled for the person that purchased it. The second was the KJ MediaPro...that product was owned by invicion/Compuhost...CB had just licensed their library to be used on the MediaPro....each song had to be "unlocked" using "credits" purchased from invicion/Compuhost.

I only do 1 show a week and am unlikely to do any others as I have a full-time job on second shift, bowl one night a week and have one night FREE to myself (woo-hoo). Therefore paying $199 or even $99 a month for content I don't need is not going to happen. I got the Chartbuster hard drive and if I need a few SC songs here and there I can get custom disks. No I don't have anything close to the full SC library but I do not need it.

It does irritate me that I know someone who is multi-rigging and may or may not have any disks to their name and is dumb enough to believe their subscription they pay to (from what I heard him describe) a IRC channel makes it legit. Unfortunately they have a friend working for them who I wouldn't want to see possibly sued as a result of their activity. I am not in a position to take their shows but I could put them to work for me instead I suppose. But the level of concern is non-existent anyway, on their part. It makes it difficult to be in the business, know what is happening and actually care about it.

To think that singers care is also really off base. I'm sure there are some that do, but I can tell you that the majority of singers I have or know from other places don't know or care about the difference between and SC, CB, DK or even SGB track, or where it came from. I've never had anyone ask me if "Sound Choice" was the name of my company. Strangely enough though, a friend did ask that question when the logo came up at a show we were at (if Sound Choice was the name of the karaoke business).

Fortunately the one bar I work at has a good owner who from the beginning insisted on paying the going rate for a show, not trying to get the cheapest possible at all. She has never asked about my song library but I have brought up that I don't have any stolen karaoke music. I know the person doing the other night there has a loaded hard drive (another idiot that assumes paying ANYTHING for something makes it legit) however I leave it up to him to answer any questions about his library, if it is ever even brought up.

In this economy when many bars are doing relatively poorly it may makes sense for bar owners to just quit doing karaoke when presented with the information being sent out. Paying more for someone with a certified library or cloud subscription is not going to magically increase business.

Sorry that this post is not entirely on topic.
