...Joe, as crazy as it seems, I still do miss flipping the discs but I agree with others, as far as convenience goes, that it's so much easier to play from a laptop, most of the time.
...I understand you're reasons for not making the change-over (legal issues and sound quality). Plus it does take time to practice a little with the laptop and chosen player software and of course Rip-Time for the shifting of many Karaoke Discs.
...However, if you ever do, just from my little experience, check out ALL of the available software (players, rippers, etc.) first before making a purchase. I know I went through many hours, days and weeks of frustration and money without truly exploring the market.
...Am sure you've read many of the threads here about everybody's favorites but it's your show, your time and your money spent! At first, for me, it was fun learning but every now and then I would get so frustrated because something wasn't working like it should or I wasn't absorbing the manual or it just didn't make sense. I once whaled a disc, like a frisbee, into my Big Screen TV because it won't rip....Nice! Left a little scratch on the screen! I was LOOSIN' IT! Just remember, Patience is a vertue!!!
...I will say this, ripping speed is very important for the graphics and perhaps the audio. I normally don't use 1x that much but will if the graphics end up distorted. I'm sure you probably already know this but some software players will play bin files. I never paid attention to the bin ripping option on the PowerBurner when I first started rippin', just mostly the MP3 settings. I started out with zipped files but not anymore, CDG+MP3. Still wish I would have went with bin from the start and a 3TB HD.
...But, if I were in your shoes, I would, at the very least, back-up my originals. You may have already copied them to discs but again, if I were you, I would rip them to an external hard drive for archive purposes. By law, you are allowed to do that, right?
...Just noticed JD posted about the hard ware, your drive, like the plextor. I have a couple of Lite-On Drives. Couldn't find a Plextor at the time but the Lite-Ons seem to very well!
...Three years ago I started out with RoxBox, then tried a few others and now have gone to Siglos Karaoke Professional because it also allows me to play customer's/singer's and my SC cdgs. Just don't like the music fade settings as much as RoxBox, can't overlap tracks. Can't forget the Breakaway & Lexicon Alpha (thanks the guys for those suggestions!). Life Saver!
...Am sure I'm probably not tellin' you anthing new from what you probably don't already know or have read here and there. But if you ever do go digital, I wouldn't want anyone to waste valuable time
re-ripping discs like I've been doing. Not Fun!
