Most of my library is from cdg's but over the last 10 months or so all my new music has been from downloads.
I do not download on the fly during a show. I take request from my customers and download them before my next show. Cuts down on fluff & duplicates and saves me money.

I actually do download on the fly during my shows. I can download 2-3 tracks via iCroons, rename the files to my preferred format, and update the Karma database all during a single singer being on stage (provided I have no other interruptions). But I am usually not under that kind of pressure to turn things around. I just make sure the track is ready to go by the time the singer is called up.

The software I used to use does that all automatically. Unfortunately i wasn't hosting long enough to really put it through its paces.

However, in a downloads vs disc ripping.. I did both. I had a fairly decent collection on disc that I had ripped myself, and then for new stuff I was buying mostly downloads.
