For those of you too eager to wait for the songs to be uploaded on to the singers show case (which will take three more days... mic one is up there). The songs can be found on http://www.reverbnation.com/peppermintpark or by clicking here
Your options of microhone are (in alphabetical order not necessarily the order I recorded them in)...
Kam KWM1930 Wireless Dual Mic System
Sennheiser G2 100 Wireless
Skytec Karaoke microphone
SM58
Other than the Mic Volume, all settings are at 12 o clock and no FX has been added... The karaoke track of Under the Boardwalk is the Supercore version. All mics were hand held at time of recording, and no mics were switched on and off throughout the recording (clicks at the end and start are players being switched on/ muted etc).
If anyone one has any futher questions on recording please ask.
Edited to add: Scroll down for an alternative (and better) link to the songs

I liked mics 1 and 3, and not 2 and 4. I assume mic channels were never drove into clipping? I heard a couple of cases of distortion. You must not be a mic mover -- I heard no handling noise at all.
A similar test with a low-voiced male would be nice. I am not sure I am consistent enough to be the test case....you did a great job.

Is there a secret to using your site? It says "now playing" but no sound is coming out.

It would indeed be nice if we could just have mp3 files. I can put them up on the web if I get them sent to me in some fashion....I will send a PM.

Not that much difference between them IMO. Number 3 seemed slightly better at first, but after listening a couple of times it seemed that the differences between them all are just not that great. I'm sure in person it would be much more obvious and then if I were to use each mic myself I would be able to tell even more.

I won't give the answer as of yet, but I did certainly move with each mic (more about that when the answers are revealed)... The SM58 (which I don't often use) felt comfortable in my hands and about the right weight, the Sennheiser (which is my cabaret mic) felt wonderful (but then I'm used to it, and i've used it for over 4 years). The Skytec, made a clunk when switched on and off, though that clunk wasn't recorded so don't listen out for it. My partner, listened to the originals and couldn't tell which microphone was used at all... and he expected the SM to shine through.

It appears to be our satellite internet being too slow today and not your site. I got one to play. Darn. Was looking forward to it.

OK, the mics are up at:
http://duxmail.com/mics/
There is a cheesy little rating program.

Best to worst 4 me. 3,1,4,2 in that order. Wasn't super impressed with 4 and 2 but I should say that none were terriible. I agree, I'd like to hear a deeper male voice for the tests.

Thanks for putting that up, MickyJ. It worked fine via slow satellite. (We're off the grid--no phone lines, either.)
I'm not a sound person but I didn't find any of them to be offensive. 2 seemed a bit clearer yet thinner and made my speakers rattle--seemed like some buzzing at the end of some words. Could be the speakers. I think I liked 3 and 1 sounded sort of mellower than the others. It had a deeper sound but not as defined. Maybe I am full of it and had better listen again.

liked mic 3 for the the colour it gave the rather monotone vocal. So my pick would be mic 3 (only cos it didnt drop out) mic 1 & 2 there was little difference and both had a drop out thing happening. Mic 4 was a tad too heavy on the lower end and made you sound muddy and nasal

my vote, in this preference order:
3
1
2=4
3 is surprisngly good for a such inexpensive mic. I like its warm, pleasant and mellow tone, very present and no drop out. Do all Skytec mic sound as good?

I think you have the numbers wrong. They don't correspond to the posting order of the info on the mics -- it is a blind test.

3 & 1 were pretty close, i'd have to give the edge to 3.
2 & 4 sounded distorted, poppy & sibilant (very sssss sounding).

In this case, I still stand by my vote: 3, 1, 2=4 in this order.

I would have to download these and play on my system to really hear them I wonder how many here are judging with onboard laptop sound.BTW I would have to bypass the vocal procs, otherwise they would all sound good and the difference would be undetectable..
For a real test I would need to hear someone i am totally familiar with their voice..

BTW here is Martina McBrides engineer talking about gear Note the reference to BBE sonic maximizer and sm 58 mics. Her fav is the SM58 wired although he mentions wireless and her band uses shure mics exclusively.

And that is funny, because so many sound engineers rag on the SM58 as overrated. She owns one of every single serious pro audio microphone ever made -- seriously. I got a tour of Blackbird studios, and saw John's mic room. He has *everything*. He showed us a rare Neumann dual mic he payed an incredible amount of money for, and his words were "it really isn't that good".
And she chooses the SM58, which is also my favorite mic.
