Due to financial difficulties, I may have to sell my karaoke business. How do I put a price on what its current value is.
Amplifier is a Crown CE 2000, 400 watts per channel.
Mixer is a VocoPro 7900
Equalizer (not sure of brand
Speakers are ASR's 3 way with dual 15" in each cabinet
Mic's 2 Shure SM58's UHF dual diversity.
Music: approximately 115,000 songs on hard drive.
Physical discs are in variuous disc storage racks.
Plus there a Sound Tech back up amplifier also 400 watts per channel.
4 corded mics and assorted cords.
Business started in 2001.

Chances are you are not going to get anywhere NEAR what you think it may be all worth. If in fact you have ALL the original discs to coincide the hard drive, this is where most of your money would be, but even then with 115K songs, I figure you have about 9K discs? Approx figuring avg 12-15 songs per disc. Even @ $5 per disc this would equate to about $47K with the rest of the system figure in probably about another $1200-1500 maybe (equipment really doesn't hold alot of value, the Shures & the Crown amp are the best pieces listed for resale value). If you do not have the original discs, then i'd just sell the discs & not the hard drive - or delete everything on the hard drive that you don't have a 1:1 for. No sense in contributing to the P word.
If you asked $20K for all, you'd be lucky to get it. $10-15K is a tad more realistic figure for a turn key startup system for someone looking.
You may be better off breaking it all up & selling individually. Although that would probably defeat the purpose of needing to sell.

I'll second what Lonman said. Unfortunately, you're probably best off trying to sell it as a set. However, folks that are going to be looking to buy a complete Karaoke setup are not going to be willing to spend $15K on it. Your best bet would be to part it out and throw everything on eBay (or try selling some here, I'm sure there would be some takers on some of the equipment). Some components will be tough to sell others will go quickly.

I'm in the same boat. But I have figured out so that I don't have to give up the one gig I have that I can get by with less equipment. I'm selling my equipment for enough to cover what I need and to get a package from Musician's friend. It does not include my laptop or music. Just the rack, mixer, wireless mikes, Speakers and stands.

The problem is finding someone who actually has the money and is interested in getting into the business. They will determine what they're willing to pay and most people will be looking for a deal on anything used. Times are tough right now.
As far as audio equipment, aprox. 50% of the new cost is what most people are looking to pay and even less. I watch craig's list and I see people trying to get close to what they paid or what new equipment goes for and I can tell you they aren't being realistic and won't sell their equipment. The faster you need the money, the lower you will have to price it. ebay generally will get you more money if it's a desirable item than on craig's list. Definitely will be easier to sell individual items than as a package unless you find someone seriously looking for a business.

I agree equipment is worth about $1200. Music depends on what original cd's you own.

The 2-way versions of the ASR's sell for $300 a pair at Music go round, so maybe you could get around $400 for your pair.
The Crown Amp you should be easily able to get $300 if it's in decent shape.
Depending on what model wireless Shure mics you have, you could get $200 or more each.
You'd be lucky to get $100 for that Vocopro mixer
The Sound Tech amp maybe $100-200
EQ would depend on brand and type but probably between $50-100
The value of the other mics would vary greatly depending on brand/model.

Actually I just got the VocoPro mixer this year (it's about 8 months old), Prosing still gives me wholesale pricing. I paid $299 for it, the retail price is $429.
Vic, what Sound Choice DISC are you looking for.

I can't believe, with all the discussion we've had here, someone actually had the nerve to offer a hardrive with 115,000 songs on it for sale.

Only reason is the mention of 'physical discs' in storage. Without a disc for every song on the hard drive, the whole system is pretty much worthless except for the physical hardware which he wouldn't be able to get more than $1200-1500 for. IF in fact he has the discs, then he has something worth while.

The problem with a large music library even if it is legal (and 115,000 karaoke or regular songs is not likely to be UNLESS you are talking about all the disks that go with it).
Such a set is (if legal) represents well over 100k investment. Unfortunately it is going to be FAR from a beginning KJs setup. Any KJ willing to invest a lot to buy such a LEGAL set is likely to have a substantial number of songs already.
Therefore I doubt anyone is likely to pay much more than 30-40k even though it may take 4-5 times that to buy them legally new (or used 1 disk at a time).
As for the "VALUE" of such a KJ set up. IF you have invested in 100,000 songs purchased from a reputable outlet you are in the relm of an obsesive/very serious KJ and you should know the VALUE of such sets if they are legit.
Most KJs are in the relm of 25% invested in the sound system and 75% songs. This system sounds like it would be 95% songs and 5% gear at normal prices.

Provided in fact that he actually owns all the original discs, if not this sytems is pretty much worthless!

I did not offer anyone anything, I just asked what disc he was looking for. I worked for Prosing for quite a few years and was able to purchase products at COMPANY COST, which made it possible for me to aquire discs at a price that most people don't have the ability to get. I'm sorry if you feel that is cheating. That was a perk I got with the job. I DO HAVE THE PHYSICAL DISCS!
I asked Vic what DISC he was looking for, as I have resourses to find hard to find items and would be more than happy to help him out. HE mentioned hard drive, not me.
I have this site on my favorites list for quick access and today is the first time that I have actually had to re-enter my pass word to log on!!!!!!
