For the pair? For a $1000 budget I would get:

2 Yamaha S115V
1 QSC GX5

I prefer the Yamaha's for the price and the GX5 pumps them pretty well. I don't think anyone on the forums would say that is a bad setup but I admit you might get better with judicious shopping.

Of course you're going to get a lot of opinions on this subject so your mileage may vary.

Are you sure the 500-1000 figure is $ and and not watt?

I love my yorkville nx55P
I live in nz so not sure what they would cost over there but I cannot fault these speakers
they are powered so no need for amp, they are 12 in yet have more grunt being 550w per side and better bass response than most 15in speakers
I am not a kj I but I do use backing tracks for my gigs and obviously if I am getting 450 per night for a solo gig, my sound has to be reasonable

I agree more information is required.

How much you looking to spend ?
What type and size gigs are you looking to do ?
Do you already have a power amp ?
Can you lift 50+lb speakers ?

Nope, not at all. I defaulted to money since I figure anyone who knows enough to ask about a power rating likely doesn't need advice on what's available but I acknowledge it could be anything.

I dunno what you can get for 500-1000 penguins either so more clarification might help :)

Sorry guys, that's $500-$1000 price range. It'll be running it on QSC RMX 850 or 1450.

power ratings @ 8ohms
RMX850 = 200W
RMX1450 = 280W
RMX2450 = 500W

The RMX2450 would match well with the Yamaha SV115 as suggested.
THe RMX1450 would match well with the Yamaha BR15 speakers

I don't think anyone would disagree with the YAMAHA SV115 as a great speaker to use for Karaoke.

I'm not a big fan of the JRX speakers, they sound really 'boxy', not as warm as the Yamaha's push. If you have a Guitar Center around, see if they have them in stock & do a side by side.

I hate Yamaha and JBL but in that price range your options are limited.

I think the Yamaha clubs that a good number of KJ's use are complete junk/

I could get a nice pair of EV Sx300 for under $1000 that would be my pick. Or a Pair of Turbosound TXD-151's could be had for about $1100

Again for your budget, if you can go and listen before hand, you most likely will not be disappointed for your purpose.

For that amp and for under 2K for the speakers, you could go with a couple JBL MRX515, or Peavey SP5 or EV ZX4.
Or did you mean speakers AND that amp for under 2K? Then I would go back to the Yamaha S115V.

$2000 I would go with a pair of EV ZX5. They are sweet, best sounding speakers out in my opinion.
