Hello All:
I have recently bought a Karaoke Hard drive that contains over 4000 songs and it was supposed to play on a PC. I paid a lot for this drive from a reputable company, however the cdg's on this drive will not play. thier tech support sent a new drive and again they won't open. I have tried more than 30 different programs. I am willing to pay for the program but only if it works. The original company's program is designed for a karaoke machine and won't work on a pc. This is becoming a major issue as I need to either find out why the cdg's wont play or try to get my money back. I am using a pentium dual core with 4 gigs of ram and windoze 7. the hard drive is a 500gb sata seagate.

Ok perhaps a little more detail is in order. I purchased the drive from Star karaoke out of vegas. What we are trying to accomplish is this. The Bar owner I am working with owns the machine this drive works in. however the machine gets a lot of abuse from the different inexperienced and careless kj's. We wanted to set up a pc with an external dvd drive, wireless keyboard and mouse so the kj's don't have access to the actual equipment, other than the mixer. the company we got the hard drive said it would work with a pc but I can not get the *.cdg files to open on a pc. I was told by a software developer that they are Raw cdg :?:
I really want this to work for the bar but I am running into nothing but non answers.

YOu dodged the question of whether you have the discs or not. If you don't have them then you can't use the drive anyway because it is illegal.

What programs have you used?

You should have a .MP3 and a .CDG for each of the songs in the library.

Both the .CDG and .MP3 should be identically named.

What was the name of the 'reputable company' that sold you this loaded hard drive?

If they didn't include physical CD's along with the hard drive, then the legality of your loaded hard drive could easily be called into question.

you mentioned the bar owns the machine the drive was made for, that makes me think of CAVS. they do use a format that is not too pc friendly from my understanding, someone else may be able to better verify this. sorry to keep pushing the issue, but did they give you the disks for the songs preloaded on the drive? that is the requirement for being 1:1 compliant and not putting the venue and yourself at risk for law suits. especially seeing Star Karaoke in vegas is a bar and not a store. it may be inviting trouble for you both if all the "i's" arent dotted.

Again....Yes they sent the discs. a lot of them....I was hoping to not have to load all of them by hand....hours and hours of work. The machine does not say cavs on it but I will have to go look at it again and I won't be going there for a few days. There were not two files for these cdg's the odd thing I can see is that the standard cdg's I have seeen on the discs wer of the 4.5 or so megabyte file size as well as the mp3's these files however are in the 54mb range which makes me think they are not true cdg's even though thier cannot open them with any of the software I have tried. as far as what software I have tried.....well just about all I have found from karafun to powerkaraoke. some will open the file but will not play....it just says that it's 58 minutes long and does not have sound or words. we are just trying to find a way to protect the equipment from damage and the cd drawer on the kj machine they have now keeps getting broken....not sure how and no one will confess. they have fired 4 different kj's now but it still happens. We are being legal and only purchased the spare drive with the intentions shown above. I think there could be better equipment but they have already spent thousands on the songs and system they have now. an external replaceable dvd or cd drive would be a great add on for any karaoke machine.

It is most likely an Acesonic player. The CDG files provided with their player are actually very similar, if not exactly the same as a BIN file, containing an exact interleaved image of the original CD+G track. The fact that they utilize the CDG extension is very misleading. You may wish to try renaming them to a BIN extension, and then use a tool such as MP3+GToolz to convert them from BIN to standard MP3+G files. Again, I'm not absolutely sure that they are BIN files since I do not have physical access to the files, but a buddy of mine does and seems to think they are.

Good luck,
tbreen

Send me just ONE of the files that you are having problems opening and I will try to figure out what is causing your problem. My E-mail address is PJBJrJr at aol dot com

also: can you scan one of the discs they sent you and e-mail the label to me as well so I can see if it is a CDG or a VCD or something else?

Thank you Tbreen
I was thinking along the same lines but was unsure of what to use to open the bin file. I will try the mp3+gtoolz out tomorrow. I was hoping this was not the case though because if I end up having to convert every file over one by one I might just as well just load the cd's. do you know of any bulk converters? I will post the results anyhow. I appriciate your trying to answer this question as it has become a mission for me more than anything else. loading the cd's will probably be faster but I wanna know why dang it!

It's been awhile since I used MP3GToolz, but I believe it supports batch processing. Of course you'll need to rename the files to the BIN extension, but by using a simple command line of "ren *.cdg *.bin" should get it done, as long as they are all in the same folder.

Another way to find out if they are BIN files would be to obtain the free player from powerkaraoke.com, I'm pretty sure it supports BIN files, therefore all you'll need to do is rename one of the files to the BIN extension and try playing it within the free player. If it works, you can then use MP3GToolz to convert them all and use them in any player that supports MP3+G, most do.

Again, good luck.

I can't email the file as it is too big (54mb) and I doubt anyone would like me to use a fileshare site. I don't want to be looked at as a pirate like earlier. I will scan the cd next week and let you know.

Microstudio should open these files if they are .cdg extensions.

Ok I tried both renaming to bin, playing with the singlos player and converting with mp3+g toolz. Music is fine bit the words look like single Oriental words run vertically. or thier all scrunched up into a single letter size. not too sure which it is. so I guess that means that Yes they are a type of bin fil. but are not convertable by regular means. well at least I tried :^) Thanks for the effort and hope you all have some great shows. Cheers ya'll

I just found out that Acesonic uses an *.rbin file (rawbin) and names them cdg. kJams claims to open them but basically only on a Mac. is ther a Rbin reader or converter that anyone knows of?

i wonder if maybe they just ripped impropperly. maybe try to re-rip one song right from the disk just to make sure the disk is ok and it CAN convert correctly. start at the beginning.
