Our regular karaoke night next week falls on Thursday, Dec 30th... the day before New Years Eve... and so I thought I'd like to do something different for our "regulars" who show up our club every week... rain, shine, or blizzard.

I've already ordered a dozen large pizzas, and have arranged to have them delivered at 9:00 pm... I've also purchased glow-sticks for everyone... but I'd like to do something more...

We usually have between 30 & 40 singers and another 20 or so non-singers attending... so I'm looking for some kind of "schtick" to make the evening a little more memorable... but won't cost me any more money. (which eliminates giving away Cadillacs)

I'd thought of making it a "duets only" night... or having the men sing only womens' songs & vice-versa... but am now drawing a complete blank.

So, I come to the "pros" for advice.

Any thoughts??

Cheers

Earl

Have everyone come in their pajamas. They can even bring their favorite stuffed animal, or their blanket. Depends on the venue as far as restrictions on pj's. I'm planning on this type of party for my birthday in April, and giving away a portable karaoke player. A good way to get someone hooked on karaoke.

When does a classy karaoke forum becomes sleazy? Go figure! :x

Gotta admit... some of these answers were NOT what I was looking for, but being a "newbie", I wasn't about to make waves or say too much.

Perhaps those are par for the course here at Karaoke Scene... in which case, I'll simply seek help elsewhere.

Merry Christmas All

Earl

Just to reiterate, I'm new here. I've not had time to fully assess the ground rules of this forum. And I've certainly not had time to find out who to listen to, and who to ignore. So, having said that:

I guess if asking a legitimate question, and expecting (or at least hoping for) a legitimate answer(s)... as opposed to juvenile potty-mouth references to BJs and the like... then, you're absolutely right... I'm thin-skinned.

I'm also an ex-sailor, and long-time firefighter... and can dish it out with the best of them... but I didn't think this was the time nor the place.

If my being "thin skinned" disqualifies me from taking part in these forums, so be it. I'm sure I can find another online Karaoke community where a certain amount of maturity and decorum is the norm.

So, if I'm welcomed here... fine, and I thank you. If not, I'll leave... Not exactly a "win-win" situation... however, no skin off my butt, nor yours.

Well, as a retired sailor (“thick-skinned” Navy Chief with 22 years service) I don’t think my skin is going to get any thicker. I’m not easily offended, appalled or shocked by words considered profane. What I was against was the fact that the op presented a legitimate question looking for a serious answer and somehow the sleaze factor was interjected into the discussion. That’s the one that rubbed me (and the op) the wrong way.

Let me just say this to Earl – don’t let this particular thread discourage you. Open up and read the other threads that were discussed. You’ll find that there’s a wealth of information on anything & everything karaoke, knowledge I have amassed through the years from the majority of members who unselfishly impart their experience and expertise.

So, Earl, as a fellow sailor let me be the first to welcome you in this forum.

Thanks Chief. I appreciate the welcome. Just as an aside, with only nine years under my belt, I never made it to "the lofty heights" :) in the Navy, but managed to retire a few years back as a civilian Fire Chief.

With that said, I certainly intend to stick around here... I've perused several of the threads, and now have a better indication of how to navigate. There's no doubt I can learn a great deal here... and perhaps may even be able to make a useful contribution from time-to-time.

Back to the thread's origins...

Since the majority of my Thursday-night singers are "regulars" (kinda like family)... I'm thinking that, as each comes in the door, I'll get their name up on the rotation white board, but I'll also print their name on a card and toss it into a hat. Then, when it's a person's turn in the rotation, he/she will pick a name out of the hat... and that person will become their duet partner... Doesn't matter what song is chosen... it becomes a duet. And, it won't matter if it's Female/Male, Female/Female, or Male/Male...

All of my shows end with everyone up on the floor... I hand out all five microphones, and we do two or three fun songs to end the night (Lion Sleeps Tonight... Bad Moon Rising... Drift Away... I Saw The Light... etc.) So, I think I'll throw in "We Are The World" this Thursday.

Thanks again for the welcome Brian.... er Chief.

Cheers

Earl

Try Feed the World.
Can't find what I was after.
This should be inspiration though.
Can you think of any more songs where this could work.

Brian & Earl, I am sorry if I offended you. Actually, I started out ok, but then my mind kinda fell off the curb a bit. I'm kinda a self-proclaimed clown on here(5 years), and yes, I sometimes have a raw humor. Now I usually use terms, and abbreviations, that take a dirty mind to fully understand, and I remember BJ & Dirty Dragon, and BJ & The Bear, and many things the two letters could mean.
Once again, I am truly sorry, and will not comment like that again in your posts. I hope your New Year, and your party turn out fantastic........JR

ps....I can't retract it, because it was quoted, but I hope there is no further discussion warranted........welcome to the forums

Just be yourself Johnny, this forum caters for different personalities and it is the mix of those different personalities that make this place what it is.
