Random homeless guy we had to call the cops on the night before wanders back in, and takes a mic from one of the singers.

I told him to get out, cut the mic, then called 911. 911 just told me "Join the STOP program" Gee, thanks guys.

Thanks Zug for your patience!

Absolutely would not have happened on our stage. Music would not have even started, mics would have been shut off first thing & we would have been getting him down pretty much the second he walked up. Can't believe almost that entire song still played & his mic wasn't shut off - I didn't hear where the mic was 'cut-off'.

Meh, pitfalls of full automation. I should have stopped this guy at the door, but when he showed up he was sort of apologetic for the night before, and bought 2 beers right off the bat.

Tech solution though..

For the duration of a customers song, they can activate-deactivate mics with a card. Prolly will go RFID for easy swiping at that point. Software mixer, hooked up to a RFID reader.

I'm 1/2 there.

You seriously dialed 911 because a drunk homeless guy wandered into your bar and grabbed the mic?

Seriously?

You understand 911 is for emergencies, right? Like when someones life is in danger. Fires, heart attacks, assaults.. not because a non violent drunk wanders into your.. uhh BAR.

I'm surprised the 911 dispatcher didn't laugh and hang up on you.

Besides.. didn't I read here earlier that you doubled as the DOOR MAN? lol.. why did you let him in?

I'm with Lonman. With me that wouldn't have happened. Everything would have been muted and the guy shown the door real quick.

Cheese look at his size. The night before he was randomly picking girls up, and dropping them on the floor. One girl got a nice sized knot on her head. He wasn't buying drinks and when asked to leave he told me "Shut the f up, you wanna fight wimpy?" and held up his dukes.

He came back apologetic that night, and bought 2 beers so I let him in(meeting our 2 drink minimum) Then it turned into the same old. If someone is in your house, and they won't leave, what would you do?

I probably have over $5k of dental work. I don't have tasers, guns, pepper spray, etc to handle guys like this, and even if I did, I don't want to risk injury in a fight.

That's the risk of being a doorman IMO. Hell i've helped the bar staff/doormen break up fights & get people out the door and that is not what I am there to do. Sorry if they are causing problems, they need to be escorted out by the doormen/bartenders/managers/all of the above, if they start getting physical/threatening/violent, THEN you call the cops.

Well that's exactly the situation we were in. The guy already threatened to fight me the night before, and I wasn't about to let it escalate to that point again. When you see me walking up to him, I'm asking him to leave, and he isn't.

That's when I went and cut mic gain.

There's a difference between a doorman and bouncer btw. Doorman just keeps the minors out, and tries to break up fights with diplomacy. Bouncers kick the hit out of folks not acting right, and usually cost more money to the venue.

I've seen petite chicks be doorwomen checking ID's. You don't expect them to flip out all Chun Li on some guy like that do you?

You should stay behind your booth playing with your RFID tags, dude.

It's the doormans job to escort folks like this out of the club.

The police have better things to do then play babysitter at a karaoke bar.

nothing wrong with calling the cop. They have the choice NOT to respond....and maybe just give advice on what to do over the phone.
High time for you to have more control over the automation system..you already know that.

I'm with Hi Teck on this.
Bouncers you pay a lot to.
They love their job.
A doorman is a political type
who try's to keep the peace.
It can get very scary.
All except for you John Wayne's out there.

Her? The other bartender (her husband) is just as old.[/img]

Oops just noticed hiteck.
I meant toqer.

In the UK there is a problem calling the police.
A bar doesn't really want to be known
for calling the police.

Yah it's the same in the USA Jerry. If you call the cops alot, you're marked as a "Problem Bar"

I think we only average 3-4 calls a year, so we're not considered troublemakers.

We have an upper 50+ yo female bartender that has intervened in between fights and got them out the door, not a big girl in any manner, but is part of her job, usually they know how to get someone out diplomatically. So I do not see that as an excuse.
A doorman many not be technically a bouncer, but sure should intervene as well if they see something going awry. Just my opinion.
But again, as a host, the guy would have been off stage the second he grabbed the mic. I don't allow people to just get up there while people are singing and if I see they get escorted off.

So you have no control over sound or mics in a situation like this?

I just think it's because you and a few others take issue with me lonman, and just naturally jump on my case when you can.

I've kind of grown used to it over the years. Haters gonna hate right?

No not at all, I just don't believe the situation was handled very well IMO.

Mate you are in a good position.
Most are not as fortunate.
I know that if trouble kicks off at the pub I work
The landlord and bar staff would run for cover.
Thing is fighting is not in their job description.

I had a pub once and on the odd time when it kicked off
It was scary.
Yes I would confront it.
A few times I expected to die.
