Okay so here's the scoop: There are plenty just outright "explicitly dirty" songs... Some are are just flat-out explicit (and crude) with no redeeming qualities as far as I'm concerned, because it seems that some people sing them soley for the opportunity to scream a cuss word over a microphone. "Closer" comes to mind with this.
And others, while they might be explicit, are actually very funny. Others use a double entendre to be funny.
Here's the question:
As many of you know, Red Peters is issuing his material on karaoke and there is one song ("The Closing Song") that can be absolutely hilarious when it's time to end the evening. However, the song does tell people to "Get the F* outta here!" which we know cannot be done at plenty of karaoke gigs that have outlawed explicit language - like Lonman's. Ask Paradigm if it's a "usable song" because he's been singing along with the vocal for quite some time in those places that do allow it. The song fits in one of those"everybody sing along" categories like "Piano Man" and others.
So, I've had some conversations with the artist about releasing the song in a more "family friendly" KARAOKE version to accommodate a wider audience. Pick your suggestion above or feel free to insert what you think would be appropriate and whether or not it would be "usuable" for you.
Here's the youtube link to the explicit version, so you decide, it's a chance for the KJ's and singers to have some real input.

Chip, I am always looking for ways to close the show and, at the same time, get the "house" involved. The F bomb would not go over very well at my shows. I am glad that you are considering alternitives, because I really think the song is otherwise perfect.
Thanks, Mrmarog

that would be interesting.. since if people really wanted to swear and were allowed they could still use the original f word on their own..

I have this disc, and have heard the song done before at someone's Karaoke show years ago. The CD has a Karaoke version of that and "The Spelling Song" (both with main vocals removed).
Question... When you get this song produced in CDG format, will you also include the background vocals? You do realize that the background vocals say that phrase repeatedly throughout the song. Do you plan to bleep out or reproduce/rerecord the song (with the changes suggested)?
I voted choice "C" in your poll, but if I had to choose an alternative word, I would go with "Hell."
Maybe you could just put **** in place of the F-Word (like some manufacturers have done), and let the singer fill in the blank. If it's a place like Lonnie's show, then the people there would know better than to use the F-Word, and will either pause or use a substitute word themselves. Of course, if it's also a place like Lonnie's, and the person getting up doesn't know better, the KJ can always warn the Singer in advance, that if he uses the F-Word, the song will be cut off immediately. And, if it's a "Regular" who wants to be a smart-a$$, and wait until the last line of the song to say it, the KJ can tell that Singer that he/she has been banned from singing the next time he/she comes to that show.

Perhaps, but how many people do you know that would even know the song? Before we started using it at our shows, nobody had ever heard it. That's one of the reasons it's so novel. People feel like it's exclusive and love it.

If the song replaced F*** for Heck or Hell - I would be able to consider purchasing. Our club don't even want the lyrics on the screen for those that do not know how to censor, if they are written on the screen, they tend to sing them that way. I occasionally will let a song go if I KNOW a customer is going to be able to edit themselves - however something with multiple F-Bombs there is no point, otherwise anything with graphic lyric content isn't even listed in the book. Still wish there was an EASY CDG editor in which I would be able to change offensive/cussing to more appropriate for my needs and start listing them back into the books - would even PAY (up to $100) for that!

Anybody who stays long enough to hear "The Closing Song" has no doubt overheard all of those words throughout the course of the evening (although perhaps not on microphone).
I would hope for two versions, a censored and a non-censored. Although I'm normally uncomfortable displaying explicit lyrics on the screen I think this song might be the exception.
I have customized songs for myself and in most cases I will censor the screen yet reserve the option to sing it uncensored. For the screen I use the substitutions from sci-fi shows: Frell (Farscape) and frack (Battlestar Galactica) the young nerds get a kick out of frack.
In the case of this song, heck seems to fit best in most places.

I'll check to see if we can get a version with no background singers at all. That way, the KJ can encourage everyone to sing along and it won't be repeated in the background over and over. We could probably keep both above as long as it's displayed as: "Get the H*** outta here!" How about a version with a "blank spot" and an audible censor "BEEP!" in it's place? "Get the _beeep_ outta here!" I have the instrumental version of "blow me you hardly even know me" with NO background singers (pure instrumental) as well as the version with background singers and no lead.

"Get your a$$ out of here" would keep the spirit of the song and not be as obnoxious as the f bomb.

I made a CDG file for this song a long time ago without any edits. You just have to know where you can get away with singing it.

The profanity is the soul of the song, it's impact will be diminished if you don't at least hint at it on screen. Anyone who has made a habit out of closing the bar has heard an impatient bartender yell out "Get the f### out of here!"

I don't think it will matter what word in substituted... the audience will replace it with the f-bomb in their heads...

In their heads is fine. I can't have it shown on the screen - not even a bleeped word as those DO sing it as it should. Radiohead - Creep - I have a version with the album version "so F***ing special" & another version with "so Very special", when I allowed the F-Bomb version - relying on people to censor themselves, many did not. The 'clean' version gets sung as it shows on screen. Very rare is there someone who sings it the other way.

I used to use the F word all the time but of course it's changed a little since the series Battle Star Galactica.
I now say FRACK and of course everyone know what it really means.

Whats the harm in making both.
Personally I think it's silly...like singing: "I'M ON THE HIIIIIIIGHWAY TO H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS!!!!".
I wouldn't buy them, but to each his own. Cee-Lo did it with F*ck You/Forget You, why not him too.
