I have an entirely different take on this as our area still struggles greatly in this economy. I would rather they sang it at my show than somewhere else. And oddly enough, I've only started hearing it done in the last few weeks. But there is a fellow who can sing it all and in the original key--he did "Faithfully" last week and it gave me the shivers.

However, I can tell you without looking that "Picture" is disc 202, song 10.

Originally, I used a CAVS system, so all of my files are sequentially numbered, starting with 00001.cdg. They are all properly tagged though, so the artist is in the artist tag, title is in the title tag, and the karaoke disk# is in the album tag.

That's one thing about CAVS - when you use some of their products, it requires that your files are sequentially numbered on a FAT32 formatted disk. That way, their system doesn't have to bounce around a NTFS formatted disk looking for songs.

I suspect that is why they put out free products, like MCG manager which does all the tagging for you. Without proper tagging, sequentially numbered files would much like a Seven Mary Three song....

Cumbersome.

OK... I have to ask....

Not trying to be a fuddy duddy here, but... Where did all that come from, and what does all this have to do with the OP?

Apparently, you did not read the two people that seemed to be perplexed as to why my files were sequentially numbered. In a perfect world, all subject matter in a post will very specifically relate to the OP, sometimes, it does not. Instead, it relates to the questions or comments others have about the comments that are (in fact) related to the OP's post...

...or those that derive from the questions or comments that are (in fact) derived from the comments that OTHERS have related to the OP's post.

That is the way forums, in reality, work.

You are fighting a losing battle if you really think that all posts in a thread should be very specifically related the the OP's.

I don't know if you are a moderator or not, but if you are... then kick me off. I'll join Chip, wherever he is at.

If not, then you are overstepping your bounds.

Every geography has there tracks that get overplayed. "Picture" has only been sung twice in a year and a half at my venue. "Don't Stop Believin'" has been performed every karaoke night since I have been there.

I didn't get a chance to print this sign this weekend but it is printed now and will be on display this Friday.

I know it is just a joke and everyone likes to vent but consider this. For one this thread is in general discussion and not KJs only which means some of my singers are seeing it. I would hate to hurt someone's feelings by making them think I was sick of their song when in reality I value their participation at my show.

For another I once went to a show with a friend who had a song he had practiced to the point that it was his showcase song and he was often requested to sing it at other venues. But when we decided to try a new place, the host introduced him as, "And now for the most sung song in karaoke." He didn't even want to go up on the stage after that. It was a real blow to something he loved that had given him pleasure and satisfaction. He sang the song and we left and never returned.

...Ya know, I was thinking the same thing. This is not a "slap in the face" at Chris but for anybody who's been a KJ for any amount of time, we know there's Karaoke Tracks that come out, which become very popular, and many times you have several people wanting to sing them on any given night. As a KJ, can it get tiresome playing those tracks over and over? Most would say yes. Do the regular patrons/singers, venue employees and owners/managers get tired of hearing those same tracks? Probably. Just give a little thought to what leopard lizard. On top of that, what if a large group of first time patrons came in (potential venue customers/potential new regulars) and wanted to sing that song and noticed your sign? Perhaps they started talking among themselves and said, "Wow, we always do that as a group song at other places, that sucks! I was hoping to find a new place to sing but I don't know about this place and the KJ, perhaps we should go some place else?" Before you say that wouldn't happen, it's just a joke. It's happened before to other KJs and unless you can explain it as a joke, ever few minutes during a show while people are coming and going, there's always a chance some people might take it the wrong way. I know you and others are probably tired of hearing it done and the sign is there mostly as a joke but why not either just limit the amount of times you play it per night or just pull it from your library?...Just asking?

There is a popular KJ in the SF Bay area that has something like the following printed in his song books - "Don't Stop Believin' will cost you $5". I got the joke and I think most everyone who reads it gets it too.

I understand where Lizard is coming from but I feel pretty confident that the good people of Seattle will get the joke. There is a big difference between having a poster on display and a snarky comment announced over a PA system.

i agree Chris, the poster is funny especially because most singers KNOW that Dont stop, Picture, Summer Nights, Love Shack, etc is done constantly. i cant be the only one where singers ask "you must be tired of hearing this huh?"

Roger Niner has a unique show that is known for theatricality and showmanship. When he did that it was at the height of the Giants winning the championship and that song was the theme so it really got played to death at SF during that time. I remember he even got in the paper for it and there is a thread on here about it. I think he could get away with it considering the style of show, his clientele and the circumstances. People understood it but he still had a few who were unhappy. He is probably so popular that he can afford to lose a few people for the sake of keeping his edge.

Oops. I forgot the /sarcasm switch.

So much for trying to lighten the mood around here (no sarcasm for this line).
