i mean like the very first KJ ever at a particular venue
all the venues i've done, i can't remember anyone ever saying i was their first KJ ever. i just wonder what that would be like.
it's always "we tried someone and now it's your turn"

I was the in the first 3 - meaning it was a company working multiple nights, I was one of the 3 kj's set to run that show. So the first on 'my' nights. We were the first karaoke show at the club. 22 years later, I'm the original kj at the club. Back when I first started karaoke, we I was often the first kj or company to work clubs. Today isn't as easy to find a club that hasn't had it at some point.

I am the second, at the place I am at now. I replaced the first. BUT that is with the new management. The bar, itself has been there for DECADES.

Some we were, some we weren't but it really doesn't matter. It is up to you to keep or build an audience.

I'm the first karaoke show at my venue. It was also the first time as a KJ for me. I heard they were thinking about having karaoke, went there and gave my pitch to the owner and I've been there for the last 5+ years.

I'd say about 75% of the venues have been 1st time for karaoke.
In the other 25%, I am the 1st successful karaoke and the longest running as well.

I have no desire to steal a show. 2) I live in a densely populated area, with matching venue density - no NEED to grab from another. 3) Over the decades I have learned a bit about following another Host: A) If the previous host was popular, overcoming negative feelings in regard to replacing him is an uphill battle. B) If the previous KJ sucked, it"s an uphill battle to overcome the venue's rep for crappy - oke. 4 ) When I HAVE replaced a host it was after separation. I have never actively stolen a show. Apologies in advance, as we agree on most things, but not here.

I'm sorry Joe but I have always been one to speak my mind and be honest about how I feel about something. I'm sorry but IMO, it IS a stupid question. Who cares if you were the first or not. That's irrelevant and doesn't really matter. What matters is that you have the gig. And yes, there IS such a thing as useless information. There is tons of useless information out there. Information that serves no purpose, etc. etc. If you've been alive for any reasonable amount of time, you would already know this.

Wouldn't calling out a person's OP as being a "Stupid Question" be the same thing as calling the person stupid??? And not only that, but you did it in 3 separate topic threads of product 19's. And, doesn't name-calling go against this Forum's rules???????????????????? 1. Posted in the "Are you the first KJ at any of your gigs/venues?" topic: Alan B wrote: What does it really matter? Stupid question. 2. Posted in the "is getting cake a big deal to you?" topic: Alan B wrote: Again, where do you come up with these ridiculous questions? 3. Posted in the "karaoke KJ swap" topic: Alan B wrote: Another stupid question. Alan B wrote: Cue: I don't believe anyone asked for your opinion. And with all the respect due to you (which at this point is NONE), TOO BAD!!!! I'M HERE AND YOU GOT IT ANYWAY! GO CALL FOR A WAAAAMMBULANCE!!!
