A question for anyone who may know...if I jump on the bandwagon and pick up one of these 12k+ CB libraries at the fire sale price...do the files come in ZIP files, if not, what format? What bitrate are they ripped at and approximately how much space do they require for storage? Thanks!

Tracks do NOT come zipped. You get the MP3 + the matching .CDG file. I zipped all of mine up using MP3+GToolz
My 12000+ drives came with 256kbps rips
The tracks sent to me consume 97.6 gigs in unzipped format.

Mine was 96.8 GB with 24,236 files (about12,115 songs. there a couple xml library book files in there) ripped at 256 (would have preferred 320 but 256 is not bad at all).

That would be great if these were still available Harryoke I have tried to reach a few CB people here but to no avail. I would be interested as well picking up 2 of these 12,000 drives. Does anyone here know exactly WHO to reach, or IF it's STILL possible to still purchase a drive from CB? -thanks john

Harrioke and JohnRenyolds, The 12000 drives are not available as they were made to order and they are not making anymore( that is what I was told anyhow), However they do have some fantastic deals. PM me for name and phone number. I don't know that it would be good to post in open forum without permission.(check your PM's) I do not receive anything for referring just trying to be of help. Blessings Athena

Actually......I have decided to follow in the foot steps of KJBill.....I am setting up KJChris.com and I will be taking orders for the CB12000+ Drive. For a mere $150 I will send you the entire CB Library, in a perfectly organized and tagged format. No need for an ongoing subscription for updates because.......there won't be anyway.
I project I can offer this deal indefinitely based upon the ongoing success demonstrated by KJBill. (*)

And I do support anti-piracy efforts - but I bought the DK set in good faith. Also, since DK has not sued a single KJ (to my knowledge), I am pretty sure that I am ok using those tracks at my shows. The license to play the music & synced lyrics are covered under the BMI/ASCAP fees. SC & CB are exploiting the trademark rights - that's all they have to go on. They don't own the music or the lyrics. Once again, they are the property of the record companies/artists/etc and covered under ASCAP/BMI. I'm sorry, but you seem to be misinformed on several points. SC and CB ARE the artists. The music you are playing is NOT Van Halen, it is SC or CB studio musicians playing in a studio. They OWN the recording. Sure they have to pay licensing fees to the person who wrote the music and lyrics, but you are playing their recording of the song not to mention the video track (lyrics, logo, scrolling method etc) they created. BMI/ASCAP collects the royalties for public performance of the original music and lyrics for the composers, not your right to possess the recording SC or CB made. http://www.bmi.com/about/and your argument that you didn't know it was stolen when you bought it so it's OK to use it because you probably won't get busted is just silly. This is getting too far OT and should really be split to the legalities forum so I'll leave it there. I can assure you that you are wrong. There is NOTHING from a karaoke track that is owned by the karaoke manu other than the trademark. If so, could you please point to some case law that involves CB or SC successfully suing for anything other than trademark infringement. Thanks For that matter, can anyone show a KJ losing a Trademark Infringement case IN COURT? This conversation belongs in legal, but here you go http://www.thekiaa.org/the-lawsuits.html

You should really do some research. It is absurd to say someone who produces a recording is not entitled to protect the work they created. CB made the recordings, they own the copyright to the recording. As for your challenge? Read all of these. It may take you a few days. "These lawsuits allege that the defendants have committed a civil offense known as “copyright infringement” or “trademark counterfeiting” or “trademark infringement involving counterfeiting.” The producer’s products are marked with federally registered trademarks and are protected by US copyright law. When a karaoke host or someone manufacturing illegal systems makes an unauthorized copy of a track, that host is creating counterfeit goods and committing a federal violation." http://www.thekiaa.org/the-lawsuits.html
