Peter Cetera was great with Chicago, just as Michael McDonald was great as a Doobie Bros.   Their solo careers IMO might have made them a dollar or three, BUT..  Their quality days (again IMO) were as singers for their well known bands.

See,  Kenny Rogers and the First Edition (I think that was his band) really had a fabulous song with "Ruby, Don't take your love to town"... Great song about a Nam Vet... He was a youngun at the time too !  Hey Billy,  that's another song you can do !

I like that song. Really. Problem with Peter Cetera's songs is he sing at too high a key.

Jian,  A lot of people like that song.  I wonder if I would've liked it if each time I heard it, it didn't bring me back to the most difficult period of my life, but instead reminded me of a great time of my life.  Music is like that !  It's accompanied by loads of reminders and memories.  It's sensuous for many.

Yep,  Cetera has a unique style.  He does strain to achieve vocal range and volume. I suppose his natural voice is somewhat quiet and mellow.  When he belts gravel and tonal probs seem to arise.  I never thought about this much, now I'm going to be thinking about

"Peter Cetera, Is he a decent vocalist ?  or the known voice of Chicago who's  not really the best conventional rock balld vocalist but rather a signature style associated with one of the best bands of our generation ?"

<which gives me an idea for the coffee talk thread>
