what i was thinking was before unlocking any songs, copy the drive and put it on another system. then as i need songs for either system i can unlock them as needed by purchasing credits and paying for each song, kinda like buying one song at a time from tricera, but no need for internet access. not to buy for one system and spread over several. there will always be thoses that will try to screw any system, if it's software it can and will be hacked. if this is not cool, ok, it was just a thought as i have no need for their drive itself, but the material could be good.

Ennnhhh, you guys figure all that stuff out. I'm not a multi rigger, the hard drive is surprisingly small in footprint and gets me to a whole lot of songs a lot quicker without buying the dogs. Right now, I'm lovin' it! Unlocked 9 so far, all for me. 2 shows this weekend, along with my new Mister Kool floor fogger keeps my vision statement going,,, "I will strive to run a better show next time than last time". I am a continuous improvement engineer in my industry and I run my business the same way!
Chartbuster doesn't and won't have every song I want, and I will still buy some discs (until SC and PHM join the fun) but this thing is great and so simple to use!
Only thing, Rumbolt, is there a way to view a history of my unlocks so I can add them to my book? I'm thinking about adding everything but for now, just what I unlock.

If you go to the KJMP controls in CompuHost and select "Review past transactions", you can view all of your credit purchases and they list each track that has been unlocked.

If the system does not need to be hooked up to the internet to unlock songs, how would that info ever get back to CH for a review?

You are correct that it is really no different than discs.... and I don't believe it's because there is a markup on the drive either.
The difference is in the amount of money CB will NOT have to spend actually making, packaging or bundling and shipping small amounts of discs.... that's where they will make up the profitability difference.
Otherwise, this type of distribution is actually less secure than discs. A registration number can easily be added to any cdg file and really doesn't matter anyway.

Seems like the more I hear about this new system, the less likely I am to consider it.

if i did not already have a library, i would probably go this way even over the GEM. these i buy and own, updates happen, and no discs to manage.

I think having a visible registration number would be a great deterrent to piracy. I might even go a step further and put the owner's name in the file. Why is this such a bad idea?

GEM for the quality base library and this for monthly additions. How do the monthly updates work? Is it done within Compuhost or is there a standalone "update utility" that downloads the new (locked) songs?

A registration number can exist in a number of different locations no matter who it is registered to. Danny G had his entire Gem set swiped, if that hits the net, there's no way to prevent it from spreading and no way that CB can enforce anyone selling a drive with their previous registration information on it. If you're using the unlocked files registered to me and CB files a suit against you, how are they going to prove you didn't purchase them from me? There's no rule that says I can't loan you my HD, or rent you my HD so without my cooperation, they're up a creek and what would be in it for me? A pat on the back? I haven't heard of any "contractual agreement" being present governing the usage/sales/rent/loaning of this new product.

Click a button and it accesses ChartBuster and if there are any new files you can then tag what you want and it downloads them to the KJMP drive.

You're not required to connect during shows to unlock songs, but you will need to connect to the internet between shows to update songs and credits. A problem for those with in-house systems that do not connect to internet.

does CH allow installation on 2 comps for this very issue? 1 at the venue and one at home for doing song updates?

Only thing, Rumbolt, is there a way to view a history of my unlocks so I can add them to my book? I'm thinking about adding everything but for now, just what I unlock. Just go into you purchase history on the on the kj media hd tab UPDATE! The history doesn't list the song name My bad actually the way I am doing it is every song I unlock will be added to a special filr folder and when I get ready to update my books, I will simply make a list from that file.

I don't see how Compuhost would know what you unlocked unless it gets hooked up to the internet. Unless this is something within the program itself?

unlocking happens on the computer itself, not over the intermet. so the record of what was unlocked is stored locally on the comp itself.

I guess it is possible that CompuHost "phones home" when you purchase credits or check for updates with Chartbuster. But, not sure that is necessary for the way the product works.

I am sure they have a way to reconcile purchased credits. This would be basic functionality.
Most likely when you purchase new credits or do a song update, your unlock history is uploaded back to the mothership so they know how many and what songs you have unlocked with your purchased credits. They would need this information in order to prosecute someone for using an ill-gotten or hacked unlocked song or a song with fudged serial numbers in the graphics. Also if they see that more songs are being unlocked than the user has purchased credits for, it would let them know that their security has been cracked.
