Yes, me too. You can have multiple copies of MTU Hoster, too, but you have to pick which two exact computers. And if you want to change which they are, you have to ask them for permission. Last time I did that, they took a week to respond..

They have changed this where you can change out which computer you install on on your own.

I have other MTU software, I don't like the hoster program and will not go with that

because of the change in file format. I am not big on that. I want the software to read mp3+g, I have some of my music backed up and it's all in that format in folders and zipped up.

If you already have all your files in mp3 format, then Hoster will read them. Even zipped files.

Lonman,

Hmmmm, thanks for the info. It wasn't possible or I missed it last time I checked the website about it. I am big on Microstudio and if does in fact read the zipped files, that may push me over the edge in choosing between PCDJ and MTU. Thanks Again...MrD

Well I went back and read all of the info on the MTU website about the new hoster release. It's a little bit confusing. Some of the thoughts going thru my head....

- do the files get converted and then stored in a folder so you then have two copies?
- does it just covert on the fly or do you have to covert before hand?
- if hoster comes with cdgripper, what is the point of microstudio then?
- how come there is no upgrade from microstudio to hoster?
- if you buy one seat of hoster, does the discount apply if you want to upgrade to two seats?
- it says works with Vista, anyone run it on Vista and any issues?

If you are converting already existing mp3g files, yes it would make a second copy (I believe, I do not use mp3g) leaving the original file intact. Going straight from a cdg would be obviously 1 file.

If you are running a show & import an mp3g, it will convert while the current song is playing, then add to the playlist as a temp kma. If you want them permanently, you would convert them before hand.

Microstudio has nothing to do with Hoster. Hoster is fully self contained kj program complete with ripper, songbook maker, key changer, ability to play customer cdg directly.
Microstudio is for those who want to make custom cdg's, import several discs & burn a disc with selected songs. It's not necessary to have Microstudio for Hoster.

Because they are two different programs. It's like wanting an upgrade from Microsoft Works to Windows,

This I don't know much about.

The new release is working with Vista, that is what I run. It honestly does have a couple glitches, but nothing major IMO.

Lonman,

Thanks for the INFO, you are wealth of knowledge!

A question about the songbook program...Is is just to create entire song books? I do my songbooks in excel and manually type them in. Would this then, be any help to me or would I be better off just going with Hoster-Lite?

MrD

The Hoster songbook program uses the Hoster database to create the songlist. NO more typing in the info in excel.

Like stated the Hoster songbook uses whatever is imported into the database. It will create entire songbooks or if you just imported say 10 new discs, you can print just those new discs either by artist name (configurable to last name, first or first name last name), by title & by disc is you want. If you utilize all of the filters when importing the discs ie duet, language, genre, and so on, you can print a book like this as well. You may still have to type the titles/artists in during the importing stage if the online free db doesn't find it or (since there is absolutely no conformity between the way people add their info) re-type it once it comes up. I've seen people that submit ALL CAPS, first name last name, lastname, firstname. Put the title & artist in the same field. Most of the time it comes up title/Last name, first name.
It outputs to either Word/Wordpad/Excel so you can still add your own special touches. If you prefer just using what you are used to, then Hoster Lite or Lite Duo (allowing install on 2 computers) should be fine.
You should be able to download the demo to make some evaluations of your own.
