Show me where anyone said it did!

Why do you want to clutter up the internal hard drive? That takes away from the speed of the operating and hosting system. Poppycock. Nice! ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) I am one of the "computer experts" that keeps their C drive as small as possible and don't use it any more than it has to. I don't go online with my show pc, and don't allow strange usb interfaces (customers) to hook up to it. I have a second hard drive that has my music and karaoke and video, and run off it. Since this is internal, there is no problem, but even having my external via usb, I never noticed a single problem. I PERSONALLY feel to leave the C drive alone, and to just let it be the OS and my karaoke player. While you may feel this is poppycock, please rest assured that while doing this for as many years as I have, I've not had ONE problem with the show pc. There are More than ONE ways to do ANYTHING, and just because you don't agree with it, doesn't mean that your way is the "right" way.
Apparently you feel computer science is like art, where every painting is in the eye of the beholder. In fact, it is not. But there are alternative ways to do things, no doubt. But no one would be arguing with someone who simply said they preferred to do it that way. It is only when the OP said that using the internal drive was wrong and decreased reliability that I spoke up.
In point of fact, it increases overall system hardware reliability because there are fewer connections and fewer moving parts. Does it increase operator efficiency? Well, that is perhaps debatable. I think not having to plug in yet another unit to the rig is a plus, myself, but I suppose people can differ.
I won't stand quietly by while myths are spread. I believe this is a place where correct technical information should be shared.

If one hard drive is doing it all and that head reader is having to do multiple things, it's harder on it, than if you have TWO hard drives doing TWO different things.
I leave one for the OS and player software, and anything else it needs to do
And the other to do the music I need.

The fewer moving parts and components in use, the less likely things are to fail. That is a fact, not a conjecture. Modern drives don't suffer from use. If that were true, server drives that do hundreds of times more operations than personal computer drives, 24 hours per day, would fail much more often. They do not. So when you suggest that more operations makes it significantly more likely to fail, you are spreading a myth. Quote: I leave one for the OS and player software, and anything else it needs to do

In some cases, it can improve *performance* to have separate drives. I don't believe that karaoke applications tax a modern computer, though.
Again, I have no problem with someone who thinks it is cleaner to use two drives. I can see that. What I can't see is spreading wrong info to advance that point of view.

The important thing is backup. My main is a rack mount with a 20 gig ide and 250 Sata. On the Sata is all the music plus backup of software updates, driver downloads etc.
A laptop is used for a backup system with a usb drive setup the same way Either D drive can be used with either computer as the last usb adapter I got handles Sata also.

Amen brother. When I got my new laptop with Compuhost, I kept my old laptop with Hoster as the backup. It gives a warm feeling to have that sitting in the car in case of trouble... ![Cool 8-)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

My main concern is from the heat being generated in the laptop. What does all of your experience tell you about heat buildup? Especially in the confined space of a laptop. Does an internal hard drive generate more heat than an external? The external with a fan box sounds like a better idea. I understand that you still need the internal one, but i'm concerned about the heat distorting the guts of the laptop.
Second is the clutter on the internal one that just isn't necessary. A clean hard drive has to run more efficiantly than one that is cluttered up. Less place to search. Instead of making 50,000 revolutions to find that song, it may take 10,000 on a dedicated hard drive. Less heat in the laptop.
Less chance for corruption of the operating system.

None of this is true.
If it were true, you would find reputable computer sites giving the tips you give. And you won't find such sites.

Heat is not the enemy of any computer? Why do they all have multiple fans? Decoration....Processors have fans, the box has fans. The video cards have fans.

How much more cooler will you laptop be when you use an external drive?
Will the heat emitted from a full internal drive (due to the mp3g folder) be greater than that of the recommended operating limit?
Will the processor work less when it now need to read from 2 sources when you use 2 HDD?
ans please.

There's fans on all those components and will keep those components cool and safe as long as they continue running. Hard Drives... they don't have fans on them. They don't need em.

They make external hard drive boxes with cooling fans in them. I have them. Nothing electronic can ever be too cool.
