Signatures: Keep them brief and to the point. (I try! )
Posting a brief statement or your website is best. Although, if you update your profile to include your website (which everyone should) posting that in your signature would not be necessary. Idea, posting your venues in your signature not the best idea. Post these on your website.

If you don't have a website or need yours updated please contact me. I offer extremely reasonable rates for design. Also, I offer some of the lowest rates for hosting and domain name registration!

Also, when updating your profile - include your Location - Like:City, State, Country - nothing else... [Brian]

Do you guys permit others to bring their own Mic? I have seen this done at many venues.

yep Phil.... I have allowed people to bring in their own mics (one guy brought his own mic that worked best with his harmonica, and he backed several people up that night. We had a blast!)... I personally don't care, but GIVE me some notice other than you're up RIGHT now!!
I have the capabilities for up to ten mics now, so it's NOT a problem to hook you up ahead of time!
and Phil... NOW you tell me about the farkin' registration! I went thru HELL trying to do that a couple years ago! And for the hosting! SHEESH

How about that guy that is new to a board and has a long signature... what a jerk...
I kinda thought it was a bit overboard but my girlfriend thought it was a wonderful idea... I fixed it sorry if I upset anybody.

We all KNOW this guy..... He comes up to you early in your show and asks you if you have a particuliar song or group and you say "sure, you can find it my book over there" So he walks away never looking at the book. 15 minutes later asks you again if you have a differant song and group and you repeat yourself but again he doesn't look in the book just walks away and sits down...Then when you play some filler music between karaoke this numb-nuts runs up the the mic and says "I can sing this song " and grabs the mic (but as an experianced KJ you see this coming so you turn off the mic first) you explain that you have the karaoke version of the song if he likes he is welcomed to sing ...But again hes just walks away ..This scenario repeats about 3 times in the course of your show .... Then at the end of the night he feels COMPELLED TO ASSIST every ither singer with their songs by shouting the chorus in THEIR ear when they are singing

Hear Hear Jamma!
I also have a variant on that theme. When you tell the guy he can find that song in the book he wanders off and then comes back 15 minutes later and asks why the flock you haven't played his song yet! Funny how that guy is never sober either!
On a side note, funny New Year Story.
I was working and this woman comes up to me and asks if I have a certain song for her. I told her that I had it, and she says, "Can you play it for me?" I said sure, and said that she would have to sing it though. She gives me this look like I am out of my mind and says, I gotta sing it?" I said, "Yeah, that's how karaoke works."
This woman was so intoxicated that she didn't realize I was running a karaoke show--despite the fact that standing right next to me was another customer singing a song! Now THAT'S intoxicated!

Phil, getting back to your question about the mics, I normally don't have requests for such. However, I wouldn't be opposed to it. But I would make sure and hook them up myself rather than allowing the other person to touch my equipment. I never (sort of) let that happen. The only exception is I do allow Brian, as I know him and his abilities. But for everyone else its hands off.

Ron... <blush> gee thanks for the endorsement.
Now to the topic at hand..
Yes, I do allow people to bring thier own mics in.. Being I do engineer Live sound, singers tend to like thier mics.. and alot of singers have a "personal" preference, and others just may not wanna spread a cold.
being I mix off a "Live" console for Karaoke, it's usually not a problem for me.

And I thought bringing my own DISCS to a show was sorta anal! Never even considered bringing my own mic!

No Mike,
not anal.. adapt, and you too will make the money the big boy$ do..
Bling Bling...
I call it the price of doing business. If they wanna sing from thier own Media then they can. It's the customers that pay the KJ's and DJ's wages.. I'll do it as long as I'm not knowingly breaking any Copyright laws.

I said I thought I...I...I was anal, not my customers.
In my opinion, hauling my own discs to other shows falls under the "You know you're a karaoke addict when..." posting. I was just amazed that people would go even farther and bring their own microphones.
As for the money I make, I do just fine thank you very much! I work too hard at this job not to get paid what I want for it. I've got all the gigs I can handle, and have even turned work away.
You know Brian, you aren't the only big fish in this small pond. I've also got a record deal from Columbia but I don't go bragging about it.
I got 12 CDs for just a penny and now I just have to buy 3 more for the regular price over the next three years! Top that!
Ba da bing!
Have a good one!

Well I never brought my own mic....but I've thought about it.....even ask a few KJs.....most said no way.....of course these are the same guys who won't let me or complain endlessly about my wanting to use my own disc.
I practice with my disc....I know my disc....and their disc is different....
Case in point: the song "Walk Softly On This Heart Of Mine"......my disc is a SC and it sounds very close to the orignal.....his disc a MM is sooooo sloooow.....
when usin' their own mics.....corded or cordless?......what about headset mics.....can they use them?
How about slips with a name and a song, but no number......or better yet a slip with a song and number, but no name....
We make a play list at the begining of the night and give it and our discs to the KJ.....then we don't have to keep track of them.....most of the KJs arround here will do that.....
Ya think it unusal for a Karaoke singer to have about 1500 songs in their collection?[/img]
