Yeah. We all have different rooms with different singers.



For example, I don't believe anyone has sung Elvis or Sinatra in my place yet this year. There have been a few Beatles songs sung, though not in awhile.

Someone sang "Eight Days A Week" last month. I remember it because I had to get him a chair (there are no chairs or stools on my stage) and take it down a few.



Man I had one of those Elvis guys come in a few times last fall. Wow was he out of his element in my place. I think he moved on to one of the more general purpose karaoke rooms that surround my bar.

Is it only here in S Florida that we're "plagued" with Elvis and Sinatra singers?

If that's the case, I can only conclude that maybe the broad age group of those attending Karaoke here comes into play.  Most everywhere I go you will find people over 60 in attendance.  Seventy year olds are not rare and it's not unusual to find somene in their 80's singing as well.  Could the age of the attendees be the difference?

Meanwhile for those of you who don't get must call for Sinatra or Elvis, you don't seem to have much call for the Beatles either.   I'll stick with my theory that difficulty of singing their songs is the cause of that!

I would most likely think that would be the reason.  Out typical age group is early 20-later 40's.  Lost of rock & country, not many standards as a rule, sure we do get them on occasion, but it's nothing like some describe.



I do get more Beatles than the other 2 more frequent.

BTW, if you are a lover of Beatles music, and you haven't seen "Across the Universe" yet, it's a great movie and worth watching. They treated the music very beautifully, and got McCartney's blessing. What more could a producer want??

I particularly enjoyed "Let It Be" - tearjerker for sure. ... and "Come Together."

I have 122 Beatle songs.   Very few get sung.   I really don't understand why.

I wish I had 122 Beatles songs, jeez. . .

We do too...never get sung...Add them to THAT pile.

As an aside, as I was ripping CDGs to computer, I got a good chance to look at all the stuff we carry that has NEVER been sung...not even ONCE....Yet people rave about our book.  In fact, got to a few and decided they weren't even worth putting into the new system (this was after the second time through)...

Lots of interesting comments here.  The Beatles wrote a huge variety of music.  Some is easy to sing, some is more difficult.  I was at a karaoke bar a few weeks ago where the only two songs people danced to were

1. Beatles, I Saw Her Standing There
2. Michael Jackson, (I can't remember)

I Saw Her Standing There will usually bring people to their feet.  Here are some of the Beatles songs I have sung in karaoke bars:

I'm learning In My Life and If I Fell, which I'll probably sing in the next few weeks.  Some of these songs are melodically difficult in my opinion, like the intro to If I Fell.  Some of the songs like Oh Darling, Ticket to Ride, and Day Tripper, can stretch your vocal chords a little.  Some of the songs, like Michelle, have those foreign words in them that you have to muddle through.  Some of the songs are great for slow dancing, like And I Love Her---I need to learn that one.  Even though the Beatles were very popular, only a few of their songs get sung much, but I think people appreciate it, at least at some places, when you dust of their less sung hits.

Elton John is difficult to sing.  I like his older songs.  I've sung Bennie and the Jets, Island Girl, Sad Songs, Candle in the Wind, Harmony, Love Lies Bleeding, Daniel, Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting, Honky Cat, and Crocodile Rock.  With the exception of Crocodile Rock and Candle in the Wind, I don't think the others get sung too much.  I wish some of his other 70's material was available for karaoke (Grey Seal, Grow Some Funk of Your Own, Grimby, Meal Ticket, Bitter Fingers, Dixie Lilly...lots of good songs there).

I also wish some of McCartney and Wings songs off Wings Over America were available (Venus&Mars/Rock Show, Spirits of Ancient Egypt, Bluebird, Magneto and Titanium Man, You Gave Me the Answer, Time to Hide--all great songs).

I have some Beatles songs I enjoy singing.  But I never do them enough.

Lots of good comments...thanx. The early Beatles music had 4-part harmonies...tough to do with Karaoke.
But I think the sheer volume of their work makes it difficult to pick a good song to sing. They had a lot of "gimmick" songs and for some reason the Karaoke producers think those songs are what we want to hear..not me.
After looking at some of the songs that have been suggested..I think I will give one or two a whirl...the songs are just too good..in fact..I think one can change things up on some of the songs (and stay within the preset karaoke music) and make them very interesting..it IS hard to copy the notes and intonations of Lennon and McCartney.
And yes..Elton is one of my favorites too...just wish more of his early stuff was available..many are ballads and perhaps that is why they were not picked-up by the karoke produces, but, the vocals and the lyrics (of those early songs) with Taupin are legendary IMHO.

When is the last time you heard a Beach Boys song?

Right.

Again songs we love to hear but no one sings.  
The vocal range on their songs is a challenge to most and the harmonies have to be tight and on the disc or no one can sound good doing them

Last night -- "Kokomo".

Kokomo,  great idea.  I'll try that and maybe others at my show will give a try afterwards?

Kokomo was just sang 3 nights ago - it's the only one I can recall being sung fairly regular.  Before that?????  Actually Sail On Sailor was done a couple weeks ago as well - this is a great song!

The most common Beach Boys songs I've heard are Sloop John B and Kokomo.  The last time I sang Kokomo I didn't like the karaoke rendition of it (or maybe I just need to learn the song better).  I've also sung Sail on Sailor--I didn't realize it was a Beach Boys song until I started singing karaoke!  It's not really a typical sound for them.  I've also sung Surfer Girl, Help me Rhonda, Fun Fun Fun, Good Vibrations, California Girls, and Heroes and Villains.   All good songs, and some I do better than others, but you have to try, right?  With the Beach Boys, it's important that the KJ is giving you good sound.

The Beatles are songcrafters more than anything else.  They weren't great singers like Elvis was.  And like someone said, they harmonized quite a bit, which doesn't lend itself to karaoke.

The Beatles created great music, but it doesn't have a style that is much fun to sing.

I do find that on some songs there are great harmonies but the number of people who have obviously never sung with any harmony get seriously confused, jump up/down to the sing with the harmony instead of continuing with melody. I am a backup singer by trade and LOVE to add harmonies with permission from singers when they sing something that is pretty 'naked' as far as backup. Sure changes the sound of some songs.
