Woah, pretty funny. I'm not there yet but I have definitely thought of that before. "Hi, my name's Karen and I'm an addict."

When you take a CDG to the electronics superstore in order to test the portable DVD players for compatibility

(um... the cheaper players are still compatible. Expensive ones are NOT)

Your statement intrigues me. Do you mean they play CDGs, including video? Or just the music part?

That reminds me of a cartoon I saw in the paper once--I think the comic strip was called "The Duplex":  A guy was in the shower singing "Sometimes When We Touch", and his little dog came in and flushed the toilet.  The guy lets out a loud yell, and the little dog sings, "Sometimes when I flush, it gives me such a rush."   LOL

Mcky - yes, some of these portable DVD players play CDGs with the on-screen lyrics... makes for cheap entertainment for under $100 (or even a backup player for KJ use -- they have video- and audio-out ports). The drawback is that playback features are very limited. To get to track 8, you have to press "next" 8 times, and also, while the song is playing, you cannot FF or REW -- you can only start the song over.

But it's a fun gizmo to have for a true karaoke addict !

A group of us addicts have been known to go to 1 AM breakfast after the show, and "entertain" the waitstaff and other patrons with our group sing-alongs!  :)  (not sure what the entertainment value was, but the wait staff got tipped well)

Almost none of the players list CDG in their spec's, so you just go to your electronics store and try a disc.

when you can both say and spell K-A-R-A-O-K-E properly

when you know the best karaoke version for every song you have ever sung or have ever wanted to sing

when you've heard EVERYBODY else at the show you're attending sing the very SAME songs before

When you test your Dad's overhead dvd player in his new SUV to make sure it plays CDG so you can sing when on trips.  Surprisingly it played cdg just fine.

I guess I didn't hit the lottery on my latest DVD player -- it plays the tune, but not the video...
