[font=verdana] Yes, Yes, Yes!! My son does Turn The Page, and does it very well. I love the song, and do it here at home, but not at his shows. It’s a song you can really put some soul into, it seems that most of the songs like that are written for a man to sing, which is unfair. I like doing songs that I can really put some emotion into. Don't let the sun go down on me
Summer nights
Piano Man
La Vie Boheme from the rent soundtrack, it goes on and on and on,
Showtunes are popular where I go for karaoke, you get 3-4 singers in a row doing showtunes it can get boring very fast...

One of my surprises when I started hosting karaoke was how popular "Turn The Page" is as a karaoke song. I would have suspected "Old Time R&R" (which gets sung maybe once for every 10 times "Turn The Page" does) or maybe "Night Moves", which hasn't been sung even once in my room yet.

"Old Time R&R" is very popular... probably since it was available on the old Pioneer lasers!
I really got into many of his others like
Mainstreet
Her Strut
Night Moves
We've Got Tonight
Against The Wind
Still The Same
Rock & Roll Never Forgets
Shame On The Moon
Like A Rock
Katmandu
Hollywood Nights
Shakedown (from the Beverly Hills Cop 2 soundtrack
Come To Poppa
Fire Lake
The Fire Down Below

What makes this thread interesting to me is that we're eager to get rid of the songs that keep karaoke hanging on ... the songs listed are the ones that the not-so-serious, just for fun singers do - those who make up probably 50% of business. Serious singers sing new stuff that they carry....then there are those who only sing their 5-6 songs and have for years and years.
My eyes glaze over when I see a group of late 20s blondes walk in because I JUST KNOW they're going to sing Dreams by F/M. The tallish dude in wranglers and chit stompers on will give FILP a go. The birthday party crowd who aren't really singers but are that night will wanna sing PBDBL.
I guess it'd be silly to take those songs out because people LOVE them ... which is why we're SICK OF 'EM! Makes sense, then, that we can WISH they weren't there but could never do anything to remove them without fearing of being hoisted on our own pitard now, could we maties??? Arggggg.... (best pirate impression)
BTW, no one would EVER know (other than my hubby) that those songs are on my 'eye-rolling' list . If someone wants to sing them, they get the same applause and respect from me as if they sang the most difficult and unusual song in the book. Part of being in what is to a great degree a PR business.

I'd like to personally excise "You Never Even Called Me By My Name" by David Allan Coe from this Earth...forever. Unfortunately, it's one of the songs that gets picked most at one of my two shows. Often several times a night (thankfully I have a no repeats rule in effect).
Others that I'm tired of include:
Fancy
Before He Cheats
Picture (though I get asked to sing this with lady singers constantly)
Turn the Page (sorry, Morgan)
I encourage my regulars to try new songs all the time, because some of them tend to sing the same three or four songs every week. Sometimes you might find a new song to add to your repertoire if you give something new a shot, as was the case the other night with a girl who tried a Sarah McLachlan song and sounded better on it than ANY other song she's done at my shows over the past year. Guess I get to hear that one for the next year.

I would never truly get rid of a song just because I was tired of hearing it, but I do have a wish list.
Turn the Page (sorry Vicki) - it's so over sung I just cringe when I have to que it up.
Walk - It isn't necessarily the song itself, but the person I have to listen to screaming it several times a week !
Sweet Caroline, American Pie, You Never call me by My Name, Friends in Low Places, Paradise by the Dashboard lights, I Got You Babe, Love Shack, One Bourbon - These are standards that everyone loves - I would never not play them, but man I am so tired of hearing them.
Pride and Joy - It is over sung by all the wrong people !
Taxi - This song is so long they made a sequil.
War Pigs and Aqua Lung ! --- Aaaarg !

Ooooo! That can be long and painful. To make this tune a little easier to swallow, I'll keep the fill music on and not turn up the karaoke track until about 10 seconds before the lyrics begin. And then as soon as the lyrics are over, get some applause and get them offstage during that minute or so of instrumental at the end.
What about "Piano Man"? It can be a great singalong, but also something easy to mangle.
