I am computerized but I still use a converter inside my rack. I pull the VGA signal from the computer and put it in the converter, I pull the VGA output from the converter and connect to a LCD monitor. The other output from the converter, S-Video connector, I connect to a large TV for the audience, if available.

So, at best, it will cost about $70 range. That's just the parts.
I don't see how you can attach the plate to the pole without welding the thing. That was my biggest problem building my own stand was to get the plate to stick to the pole. The monitors are not light, it's a 17" monitor so it weighs a bit. I think that will be the hardest challege, making sure that the place stays with the pole and not fall off.
I still think it's easier to buy something now for about $100. I wish I had something like that for $100 when I was looking for them.

That's what the conduit straps are for.

The LCD mount plate isn't going anywhere. I think the speaker stand would break before that plate slides down or falls off the pole.
That was my solution anyway. It's working out very well for me. I like that it collapses down so all my stands (2 speaker stands, 1 monitor stand, and 2 mic stands) go in a bag from an EZup canopy. Setting it up takes no time.

I just use a heavy duty music stand I bought at Guitar Center for $40. The top is removable and the legs fold up. I bolted the screen to the top. Then I got a World Tour padded gig bag from American Musical Supply to carry it and protect it. Simple, compact, easy, and relatively cheap.
It probably would only work for screens up to about 17"-19".

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In addition to the "old" 13" TV I most typically use at my gigs for the singers, I also have a flatscreen TV that I have mounted to a Music Stand by drilling holes through the stand. This setup is particularly important for me to have when I work places where there is no screen for the audience to see!
When not at gig, the TV, still attached to the stand, sits on my dresser. It mounts on a tripod base which stays with the rig (in the bag with the speaker and mic stands)
I recently posted this on another thread.

I had a stroke of luck today. I finally got around to getting my outfit set up for two LCD monitors. I have a 19" VGA and a 15" VGA. I bought a splitter/amp to split VGA to two screens.
So I was looking at how to mount the 15", and had looked at the monitor wedge idea. I haven't given up on that, but haven't found anyone to build it for me yet. So I took my AceSonic TV stand (the kind with two mic holders) and held my 15" up to it.
With the platform off of the Acesonic, the shaft of it looked like a close fit if I took the monitor off the stand, so I did. Voila! Perfect fit, sits right on top, nice and stable. The base even tilts so that I can angle the monitor up so that it won't block my (often diminutive) singers.

I wouldn't buy one unless it is on wheels. So it can roll away instead of fall over (if) WHEN some drunks bumps into it.

No, I am not much for pictures. Not sure I have a camera around. But I can show you the stand:

It's that stand or its twin which I got on sale. Take the top platform off, and imagine your typical 15" 1024x768 low-end monitor stuck on top.

I took the top off my bog standard CRT stand and added this VESA pole mount clamp for my 15" LCD. I could also mount it to my speaker poles if required facing singer or audience.

I had a regular CRT monitor stand (I think I bought it from AceKaraoke or such), but when it got bumped over during a setup the CRT broke.
I decided to go the way of LCD, and I bought a cheap wall mount adaptor for a LCD TV that I could bolt onto my old CRT stand after I took out the tray.
I think the TV wall mount cost about $30 at wall mart (sure overpriced) and I needed a metal L bracket from a hardware store for $1 and a couple bolts but then I was in business.
It is great now, the stand was a bit topheavy with a CRT tv, but with a lightweight LCD it is much more stable than ever. (It also helped a lot for stability to remove the wheels, a bad Idea that contributed to it falling over the first time).

I finished my monitor setup today. Consists of:
-- 19" monitor
-- 15" monitor
-- 4-space SKB X-rack with roller/handle
-- Power conditioner
-- Adjustable clamp rack mount shelf (2 space)
-- VGA splitter
-- VGA->svideo adapter (not normally used)
-- SVideo -> RF Modulator (not normally used)
All the cables stow inside the rack. The box units (VGA splitter, etc) and all wall-mount power supplies are mounted in the clamping rack shelf so they won't rattle around. The power cords are also all anchored or tie-wrapped inside the rack.
The VGA splitter has a cable which connects to my laptop VGA, then to the two monitors. The monitors fit in one large gig bag. The stand comes apart to two pieces.
Now in 5 minutes, I can have two LCD monitors set up with one on a stand for the singer, and one on top of the rack (or a table) for audience viewing. They stow quickly and don't weigh much.
In addition, I can set up a third screen by means of the VGA->SVideo->RF
conversion chain. The long RF cable fits in the gig bag pocket.
Two pieces plus the stand, and they don't weigh much.
My former CRT TV and the platform of the rolling TV stand were very bulky, and
I am glad to get rid of them. I essentially get two screens for the same
amount of bulk and weight, and it is a lot cleaner.

Music stands work great and are inexpensive < $40! I have my LCD sitting on the ledge of the stand while it is also screwed onto the back. A friend removed the "table" and screwed the TV directly into the back of the stand. One fellow simply keeps the LCD in place on ledge of the stand using bungee cords!

One thing I discovered about LCD monitors (duh), is that they are nowhere near as good as CRTs outside in daylight. I am sure I had the knowledge to know that is true, but it never occurred to me until I tried it.
Of course I am probably one of the few that routinely does karaoke outside in the daylight...
