It seems this kitty has sensed the lingering energy of your dog, and your energy as well. My own religious background sort of frowns on all of this, but after seeing and experiencing things, I must acknowledge that other powers and energies play a role in our lives. I was outside letting the dog (spring mounted bark machine) do her toilet. All at once, she runs and cowers by the door shaking. I then feel a cold nudge on my elbow. I turn and see that a deer has come up behind me and is just standing there unafraid. I talk to it and it just stands there wiggling its ears like he understood me. A native American friend I related the story to, said that the deer is my spirit guide. He offered some tobacco in a ritual for me to become attuned to my spirit guide. He said a great honor had been bestowed on me. Deer just don't walk out of the woods and hang out.

While I'm not a cat person either Vicki (not to mention I'm terribly allergic to them), there ocassionally comes along a cat that's just got that something extra, (no, I'm not talking about a male stray), but I am talking about cats I've been around that really seem to like people and wish to interact and warm up to them.. This from ALL I've seen given a cats inherent independent disposition is far from the norm however.. but ocassionally a cat is more receptive and sensitive to people like dogs, yet, people that've never had birds would be AMAZED at how a bird will warm up to it's owner too if given the time and attention..While it's not common (to my knowledge) for cats to pick people they don't know and warm right up, I think alot has to do with the cross-breeding because I've not seen too many pedigreed cats that are this receptive to people, but they do exist..

But here's what I also think. This cat knew and recognized the scent of your dog, might've been afraid of the dog, and knows the dog is no longer around and is quite curious !

btw, I have two jet black cats living out front (I try to get along with the neighbors who feed and let the cats stay on the porch, I suppose it's a better place than the common hall where I'd have to be living on benedryl due to the dander in a non-ventillated alcove). I have no fear of black cats, no superstitious belief, but if course I was born on a friday the 13th, and my parents had a black cat.. Not many of us consider "friday the 13th" a lucky day ! but I do..

Hopefully you have a new pet. Sounds like a cool cat ! If I didn't have such a nasty allergy I'd probably get a cat like Babs has.. You look at those Canadian Sphinx hairless, and how can you not laugh at those little Martian looking faces.. I need a pet that can make me laugh.. I get tired of scrolling back having to reread my posts for cheap thrills. OK, back on tour.

*I'm not a big one for ESP, or paranormal activity, but animals DO in fact sense things and for all you know, this cat might know just what's going on, and that you have a vacancy and need a companion*

I used to sit out on womens porches, follow them around but I never had much luck.

Vicki, sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. We have a dog, and he's a lot of fun--although I still miss my cat. (She died about 5 years ago.)

Sounds like that kitty knows you need a pet! She sounds like a real sweetie.

Sorry to hear about your dog Vicki. I lost my dog Lacey back in 2002... and I still miss her, she was a great family pet and had grown up with my kids. I don't think I'll ever have another pet that will be the kind of companion she was.

I'm sure the cat's coming around cause... hell, the dog's not there to run her off any more, so she's figuring it's a good time to move in;)

Whatever your belief a dog is the most wonderful creature ever.From the time that it looks into your eyes as a pup with full unconditional love you know there is a creature in your life that you can love forever.They have the full pack instinct of the wolf but after many years of breeding show the aspects of living with a family and being a strong part of the family. They will protect a pup or child with all they have up to and including their life. Their saliva has a disinfectant and when they lick a wound it does not become infected. They can detect cancer or other diseases and stay by your side.

When one goes you bury them in your heart..And at proper times they still give that loyalty and their spirit is there giving comfort in one way or another. All you have to do is call their name.They will visit in many forms even as a butterfly or wake you with the cooing of a dove on a cool sunrise.
