Re "the singing line"--yes, I meant the rotation. And I am used to smaller places so a two hour rotation would send the boyfriend into a frenzy......plus with a postage stamp dance floor, one line of line dancers takes it all. But the host who has been there for over a decade says that it always goes in waves of different types of regulars so who knows.
Sort of off topic but most of the karaoke places I have been have been an older crowd with a few youngin's. That's why I was interested in Lonnie's place as far as expanding the base as we old ones die off. The one youth-oriented place I went consisted of young men doing metal with lots of long guitar solos and a few lines of lyrics in between. Give them an air guitar--they don't know what to do in between. Then it turned into people just wanting to request the filthiest songs so they could scream out obscenities and it eventually had to close down. My boyfriends's son says that at one place he goes, they do karoake until 11 when the old folks head for bed and then bring out a DJ for the younger crowd. So from what I'm used to, 70s and 80s stuff seems pretty modern.......I mean, I was considering trotting out, "I Fought The Law and the Law Won" as a "new" one tonight.........but I really do like a mix of all ages as it makes things more interesting.

Wait a minute--letters have no arms? Don't you guys remember that old PBS kids' show "The Letter People"? _They_ were letters, and _they_ had arms!
(just kidding--I don't know the song you mentioned)

Simple solution to that is to not list those songs. I haven't had any song with profanity/cursing in the books or even allowed over the mic since around 95 or so. This wasn't my idea, but the clubs - I tried to argue that we'd lose customers - we did, the rowdy ones. What we gained was a better class of singer. There is rarely any complaints that certain songs are not listed - so the screaming obscenities is not an issue any longer.

midlife crisis - faith no more
talk about an underrated song from an underrated band that nobody knows about. this one is it. depending on the crowd, it can be a real firestarter! maybe lonman knows it, but I doubt many others do.

Yeah I know the song - great tune, do not have it though. Epic is the only one that ever gets done on occasion - probably because it's the only one I have from them. Only other one that ever has been requested is "Easy" - which again I do not have - unfortunately discontinued.

I got it ( Midlife Crisis ) about a 2 weeks ago and my brother has performed it maybe 3 times. Tough song to do, but he gets it down better each time he has done it. First time I heard the original was at a strip bar ( long time ago ) and I thought it was a cool song immediately upon hearing it. Rudy.

I've mentioned this before, but 2 songs that I do that I have never heard anyone else do and that I think are great rock songs are,
On the Loose....Saga
Doctor, Doctor....UFO.
Gawd they don't make rock like this anymore, will somebody teach these new bands some lead guitar! Sorry! Rudy.

Yeah funny you say that, I've been thinking about asking my bro to let me help him sing it because not only are there 2 distinctive type voices ( although both by Mike Patton ) but some of the lyrics run over other lyrics. Vasoline by STP is like that on the first verse running into the chorus. Also check out Faith No More's " This man loves you " remake, it may be only on video, not sure, but man does that dude have some pipes! Rudy.

Yeah, that would be fun! Saga had another song I really liked called "The Flyer". That would be great for karaoke! It's probably not available, though, since I don't think it was that well-known.

Laura, you might be the first woman I have ever heard of that likes Saga! Yeah they had another song from that same CD with " On the Loose " that I really liked alot, can't remember the name of the song though. I might have to pull that CD out and give it a listen to. Laura, next thing you know you'll be telling me you like Fastway also. I too am 45 and those bands were popular back in our "slightly" younger days.
Getting back to the topic at hand, I really enjoy singing " Plowed " by Sponge and the crowd usually likes it also. I don't think I have ever heard anyone else do it. I tend to hear comments afterwards like " man I haven't heard that song in years " or " Who does that song? ". I love the intro to that song also, Rudy.

Actually, a former co-worker of mine (also female) said she saw Saga opening for someone, and she said they were great live. So I'm not the only one. The other song you're thinking of might be "Wind Him Up"; that got quite a bit of airplay.
I only remember hearing one song by Fastway, and I don't remember the name of it. All I remember is that the bass part was just one note--bum-ba-dum-ba-dum-ba-dum...I don't remember any lyrics, but I would know the song if I heard it. A guy I knew--who AFAIK didn't play any instruments--said that he could play the bass part on that song because it's only one note!

That's the one, great song by the way. Even if it was available as a karaoke song I couldn't do it, way out of my range. Rudy.
