Well instead of ignoring it like I usually do, last night when they walked by the stage I announced the strippers were here. LMAO
Good one! I'm still laughing...

One of the places I do, we have a cop or two show up every once in a while. But they're always in that area and just checking on things.

I got one of them up one night to do Rapper's Delight with me... :D

Geeez Jian getting locked up for just testing positive!!!
That's pretty stiff. If they did that here in the U.S. half of the town would be locked up. How can they say you are using just by getting a positive result. There are a lot of reasons to test positive and not using such as over the counter meds and even shaking hands with someone that uses and then not washing you hand before the test you can transfer.

Whew

I heard in Turkey, the penalty is death for wearing a shirt with a picture of "Weed" on it

OK, a joke:

The cars are beginning to empty out from the bar's parking lot under the watchful eyes of a local cop ready to pull someone. But one car's horn blares, the lights flash on and off, the windshield wipers are on, and it herky-jerky backs up about 10 feet before stalling out. This repeats itself several times while other cars maneuver carefully around it and out the driveway. Finally the cop comes over and asks the driver: "Have you been drinking tonight?" The driver says, "No, actually I'm the designated decoy."

Until they kill a relative or friend on the way home. Then the cops have to clean up the mess and tell the victim's relatives that they are dead or worse. Yeah, there is a worse. Bills for long term care for someone who will never utter a word or know they're in the world, or gone from the waist down with severe brain damage. Got the message.

However, in certain circumstances off duty police (in uniform) are hired as security.

I know in Canada, if that policeman is an RCMP officer, he won't be for much longer.
It is against the law for them to wear or use their uniform for anything other than "offical" duties and the penalties are pretty stiff.
In many places, it may be the same for non RCMP officers as well.
It's also against the law for a non RCMP officer to wear the uniform.
This prevents abuse of the authority behind the uniform and helps for people, children in particular, to not be taken advantage of by fake uniforms.

Diafel, I suggest yu read the variuos Police Acts. Most, if not all, allow off duty police officers to perform security functions. The person/organizations that hire them pay the municipality they are in the jurisdiction of. The police officers you see at concerts, sports events, etc are all off duty officers.

Police are certainly allowed to perform off duty functions, no question, but they are NOT allowed to wear their RCMP uniform, IF they are an RCMP officer, while doing so without prior approval from their commanding officer. EVER.
As I stated earlier, RCMP officer are NOT allowed to wear their uniform for anything but official RCMP duties. Period.
An RCMP officer who decided to wear their uniform at an unofficial function without prior approval could risk dismissal for doing so.
I also stated that it "MAY" be the same for non RCMP officers. I left room for error when it came to non RCMP because it may vary from place to place. That, I do not know for sure.
But for RCMP, I stand by my statement.
RCMP are NOT (under NO circumstances!!!) allowed to wear their uniform for non-official functions. EVER.
It would be considered an "abuse of the uniform".
Check it out. You will see I am right.
Otherwise, you would be seeing an awful lot more red serge than you do see now.

I know just a wee bit about what I'm talking about as I am a retired MP. Those RCMP you see at functions in uniform (Red Serge or patrol uniform) are, in the vast majority of cases, are off duty. They are authorized by the Commander to do so. If you read my previous post, I stated the organization who request them must go to the entity in charge of the jurisdication they are working under (Federal, Provincial, or Municipal) and pay that entity for their services. No police officer of any jurisdication can work off duty (esp in uniform) for a private person or organization without prior permission of their superiors. I hope that clears things up for you.

Just to let you know that a cost of a police officer here for a private function is about $140/hr per officer.

LOL that's EXACTLY what I've been saying all along. Didn't you read my posts?
Why argue with me when we are in agreement?
As I stated earlier, in my first post regarding this subject, and I quote:
Quote:
It is against the law for them to wear or use their uniform for anything other than "offical" duties

Which means, by implication, that if they have permission, then they are performing "official duties" per se.

Also in my last post:
Quote:
but they are NOT allowed to wear their RCMP uniform, IF they are an RCMP officer, while doing so without prior approval from their commanding officer.

As for knowing something about it, I have several personal friends who are RCMP officers and therefore I know a little about it as well.

Oh, and I'm not trying to nit pick, honest, but you said:
Quote:

I can't find where you said that in the thread. Am I missing it somehow?
Anyways, we agree on the subject.
'nuff said, I should think.
