The Supercores seem sort of iffy to me. I tried some 30 second samples and "Hips Don't LIe" seemed to be the same version I have on Top HIts (??? don't have it here with me), which is pretty good. But the intro to Desperado had a thundering discordant piano chord and a melody line carried by a tuba or something--at any rate it was much more overbearing than any DK flute. So have people had more experience with these that suggests the bad ones outnumber the good ones?

The reason I was checking them is a site is giving away '06 or '07 with a minimum $150 purchase.

That song probably is. The SuperCore is comprised of the supposed best from a handful of companies that are used.
But for $80 you can have the complete version to '08. Instead of getting up to '06 or '07 then having to purchase the other year or 2.
They would be good enough to get you going, then you add as often as you can what the singers want.

You still never mentioned what the intended use is for. I love the SC discs, but again if it's only for home use, the SuperCore is a great buy at $80!

I asked about this in another thread, why is this a great buy if it's for home use? Is it the quality of the songs, the quantity vs. what you'd need for a pro gig?

I currently have a 2000+ song library and am always looking to expand and if I can get a good variety of quality songs and not bankrupt myself I'm always happy. I haven't compared this one song by song to my library but I do know there are some that I don't have.

Thanks,
Ken

It has a little to do with both. The quality isn't the greatest but is good enough to play around with in the home, although several seem to be content with using them in a show. I personally wouldn't. Plus it's only about 240 songs, granted they are generally some of the more popular songs that typically would get sung at a show.
If you have a 2000+ library, chances are you would already have a majority or good bulk of the songs & it would be a waste of money as you could more than likely get more useable songs that you do not have with individual discs other than the set. Do a printout the SuperCore list & take the time to cross-reference your book to the printout & cross off the ones you already have to see if it would be worth it. Maybe it doesn't matter, I personally won't buy a bunch of repeats I already have.

Thanks for the info. I am to the point in my library where I do have to pay attention to repeats when I'm looking at discs. I am heavy on country with quite a few CB best of discs along with Volume 8. My challenge now is to stay up to date on the country side and expand on the pop and rock selections both new and old. I will have to print that list out and compare it to my book.

Any suggestions on the pop/rock that would provide bang for the buck?

Thanks again,
Ken

Not looking to start a collection but add to my existing one: Can someone over the pond help. It's mainly for my own use (as the UK haven't quite got into the country scene yet) though it will be going into the book, but I'm looking for a cheap way to enhance the counrty I already have... I'm a fan of Brad Paisley, Gretchen Wilson, Rascal Flatts, Dixie Chicks. . . . supercore 2008 looks great, but I already own Supercore 2006 so their will be a lot of dupes. Can someone recommend an cheap (quality doesn't matter too much, it's unlikely they will be sung by anyone other than me) way of creating a decent country section in my book.

And based on my taste if anyone has the time can you suggest artists i'd also like.

For the newer artists you describe, you can buy Pop Hits Monthly on sale at karaoke.com. The disks that are a year old and more are usually reasonable.

Also look into Big Hitz for anything from 2004-up. They have this uncanny way of putting the most sung songs from each year on just four discs... two pop and two country. The country discs 302, 309, 312, 315... just about every track on these discs has been sung regularly in my room. They've only missed a few big ones... "Long Black Train" comes immediately to mind.

"House Of The Rising Sun" (absolutely awful) and "Desperado" are the two worst duds in the mostly solid Supercore collection IMO. But then there's a good "Hotel California" so they didn't get all Eagles stuff wrong.

I'm not sure of their recent discs since my set dates from about five years ago.

Edit: One more Supercore dud. "Wonderful Tonight" now that I think about it would need to be replaced if this was your only version. In fact I need a better version of this one myself. Sound Choice... DK... Zoom...from the rest of you what's the best?
