Ok, so it looks like storage wise I'll be fine, thanks for clearing that up. The hd is now reformatted, do you guys use any kind of folder structure? Should I rip straight to the drive, rip into a karaoke folder and a dj folder? By manu? Sorry for all of the questions but I really want to do this as right as I can the first time.

Thanks,
Ken

After problems with my dvd drive, software, and (more than anything else) my lack of computer skills, I was finally ripping. Happy as a lark, and looking for my next CDG purchase's, until I saw this thread, lol. All my songs have their own individual file, and I don't remember seeing any options for doing otherwise when setting up my software. I have Power cdg burner, and Fasttracks. Long story short, after seeing how everyone else does their folders, I wanted to shoot myself, lol. I have been doing it wrong, and now have to start all over?
I see there is even a varying opinion on compressing, I chose compressing but wasn't sure on that either.
Anyway, I am glad to see these posts, and surprised at the difference of opinion with the tech guys.
I do very much indentify with you on wanting to do it right the first time, I don't have the time to do it once, let alone twice. :) Ron

I'm glad my endless string of questions has been able to help someone else. The biggest thing that I got out of this thread is that there probably isn't a right way or a best way, but a best way for each individual person. I haven't started ripping CDG's yet since I haven't made my final decision although I'm leaning towards Power CDG Burner and Compuhost. I'm currently ripping my audio cd's with audiograbber and using an artist folder with an album folder inside of it. I won't use this structure when I rip my cdg's most likely but this works for me keeping things organized for my music playlist. I think as long as you are comfortable with how you currently have it ripped I would go with it. If you aren't, at least you don't have to re-rip it, just move folders/files where you want them. The one thing that surprised me the most out of this whole thing is how long it takes to rip audio cd's. I really hadn't thought about how much time per disc it would take with a large library. Once I'm all done with everything, I'm thinking of combining all of my efforts and learnings into one single post to try and help the next guy/gal.

Thanks again for everyone's support!
Ken

It seems I have spent a lifetime ripping. The first thing to consider is the software you use for printing books. If it uses the file names then you want to choose the naming format. Mine is Patsy Cline - Crazy(SC).zip Notice the - it is used as a delimiter to separate artist and title for Access and many others. The (SC) denotes Sound Choice. For karaoke I have 3 folders A-K, L-Z and spanish No disc or track numbers. They are unessesary and require singers to provide a number for every song.

When I was first ripping Cavs encoder was about the only one available I now use Kjamp rip-n-zipuses it's own data base or KJPro for naming.

That would be a great idea, and much appreciated i'm sure. The techs here are very helpful, but sometimes its just those little things inbetween that can cause a lot of wasted time, and effort.......Ron.... :withstupid:
