The nice thing about Winamp is that if there is something you wish it would do, but doesn't...someone has probably already thought of it and have written a plugin to do it.
For example I wanted the song to be removed from the playlist once finished, found a plugin to do just that! http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php ... did=157049

Just about anything you want it to do it can do, with the right plugin.

I am looking at that OTS software and kinda like it.

However, it wants to convert all the MP3+G into another format - or something?

This is why if I want to go to a pro dual player software, I loved Clubdjpro. I like the fact it does video as well as all audio formats. WITHOUT wanting to change your formats! LOL!

It converts to an OTS file which adds dynamic compression and greatly enhances the sound. The conversion process is very quick and if you wish to convert back it is just as quick.

If you download the demo convert a few files and then compare the sound of the MP3 to the OTS file. Bring up your current player and OTS and play both. You will be able to tell the difference immediately.

I have not tried this with Karaoke files, only with MP3 audio files but the difference is clearly better.

Not sure about the mp3g's but you don't need to convert regular mp3's at all in order to play them.

I've been very happy with OTS. Yes, the converting was a pain at first... but that was when I was transferring all my audio cds to hard drive then converting them. I have over 53,000 music files in Ots.. the original transfer took over a week of late nights! But because Iam a DJ first, it was well worth it. When doing weddings and receptions, it's nice to be able to just move the laptop to the reception location without hauling cd's (frequently the reception is in a different location than the wedding ceremony).

OTS also frees me to talk with the guests without having to stress over which cd/song needs to be que'd next.

I've never used any other dj program though, so I don't know how it compares.

As for running karaoke through ots...I haven't done alot of that yet. There are settings for dual displays which would show the lyrics on an external monitor without having everyone seeing my work display. It's kinda nice to have a filler song loaded inbetween each singer...that way when the karaoke song is over, ots automatically fades into the filler song...then when the next singer is on stage I just click and ots fades into the next karaoke song. I do turn the music volume down a bit when filler is playing, then back up for the singer.

Compuhost suckered me in with the free version. Doing DJ and Live Band work, I was glued to the program. Easy to work with and the ripper is great too. I'm here doing late night ripping of endless discs so hopefully I'll see a light at the end of the tunnel before my reintroduction to KJ since 2001.

I tried some of the other programs and they were ok too. Seems like you got lots of choices. Winamp fan too. itunes... check. I was just setting up a rehearsal gig for my new old karaoke setup... I did shows back about 7 years ago and now I was asked to do em again so I'm happy that so many things have improved.. and now it's my show so I'm taking my promoting and marketing background and applying it to a whole new level... this is why compuhost was great... lots of room for easy shifting of displays err... ads err... whatever.. but again, most other programs did this too.

I'm running a 2 something ghz XPS laptop thats about 4 years old (hand me down) and it's doing great with this program. I did notice that the fade for background music didn't seem awesome when shifting back and forth but I was really running it through it's paces, ripping, running background programs and doing everything possible to make it hang... and it didn't but the filler music was a bit choppy back and forth. Audio levels were not as stable when I was doing this but... it will work for now.

The doggle USB fob is still someplace between WI and FL so I'm waiting for that so I can unlock this thing and really see what it can do. Being new here I'm guessing that this topic has come up 748 1/2 times... I also took it up the rear and paid out for the fast tracks program. It's proving to be mostly accurate and I'm sure no matter how nice it is I'll want to toss the laptop against the wall when I see the books it makes and the limit of my options... but I have yet to play with that.

The Compuhost program utilizes a USB Dongle - resembles a USB thumb drive in order for the program to work in full mode.

I happen to think that the finished product from fast tracks is more professional looking than any other method of creating songlists. They even have a separate program which is free that you can put on another computer and copy the database and backup to the other computer and you have a kiosk where your singers can look through your list without printing anything.
