We've talked about this problem song before. I actually did that. Back when I was disc based I told singers who were doing the song that the disc was busted and they couldn't do it anymore. And when I went computer I never listed it in my books.
It wasn't personal. It was business. It just drones on and on. I watched my room half empty during it's performance once too often and pulled the plug. But when we talked about this song before other KJs were good with it, and a couple of KJs actually reported subjecting their rooms to it themselves.
So there you go.

Picture? I was requested to sing it with a woman, I had never sang it, came naturally, people were uuuing and awwwing during the song and gave us a standing ovation! So I guess it's not on my list. I leave Paradise on my books, afraid they will bring their own disk of it and then leave.
Songs I don't like?
Long songs,,,,,
I Will Survive,,,,
Come On Eileen,,,,,,,

I want to enter a contest where you have to sings songs from the month of March from any year between 2001 and 2005 but they have to be country songs.
How about a contest where everyone has to sing only Bruce Springsteen songs????

Green Day-Jesus of Suburbia and Guns n Roses Cold November Rain are both long and boring....they are the 'American Pies' of the last decade. Even well sung, they are like listeniong to paint dry, because vocally there's nothing to them and they drone on and on forever. Add REM-Everybody Hurts and anything from Grease and The Commitments soundtrack to the list.PBTDL , Picture and You Oughtta Know are on my 'hope not to hear' list as well, and Sweet Caroline.
Even uptempo songs get old fast at karaoke if they are too long. One of the songs I have the most fun singing is Magic Man by Heart , but because it is nearly seven minutes long I have never sung it at a karaoke show where there is a rotation bigger than eight singers or so, just out of consideration for the others waiting to sing.I also love Wild Is The Wind, but it is a slow jazzy 7 minutes plus song that I wouldn't ever sing at an even slightly busy karaoke show. Really, does anyone want to sit through the full version of Stairway to Heaven/any long song at a karaoke bar?

PBDL... ah, now I get it.
That's a tough song for non-singers... the vocals are high, and the syncopation is really funky and changes four or five times through this 7 minute opus.
Done well, this is a crowd pleaser. I do it all the time
However, it is one that I dread seeing for someone else to do... .

One of the features of Compuhost is the "Fun facts" screen. I've got the regulars at one of my venues vying for top spot of most "unique".
That's been neat, as I've heard songs out of my library never done before.

I hate picture. I dread when a certain girl comes in because she always picks Picture and has no one else but me to sing it with. Maybe I should have told her I didn't know the song the first time !

How can you tell your singers what songs they can perform? Thats funny..
If somebody likes country they should not be expected to go out to a karaoke show where they want to have fun, and be told to sing hip hop. WOW.

I don't think that is what this thread is all about.

Maybe not but gemini opened the whole thing up with his contest rules that would never get me to compete. I want to sing something I am comfortable with and the only rap song I will attempt is Funky Cold Medina as rap or hip hop as it is called today is not my forte. I am a 80's rock ballads type of singer although I have crossed over to modern rock some lately.

"All That Jazz".... I don't hear it all that often, but it seems each time I do, the singer thinks they have to "put on a show", and the vocals never match the "acting".
And I'd probably not shed too many tears if "Redneck Woman" and "Before He Cheats" got passed over for a few months. (maybe... 12 or so)
Oh, and before I forget... "Love Can Build A Bridge"... should not be sang in a happy, party-crowd type atmosphere. It's depressing as hell, and another "I'm gonna put on a big performance" type of song. That song is usually my restroom break song.
I have a bunch more, but I'll quit there... before it starts sounding like I have issues;)

Yeah, I can follow a thread... unlike some. I am responding to a post that makes no sense about what singers can sing at shows. Certainly one show I would never attend.

Haha, as soon as I saw the topic title, I knew I would see PBDL in almost every other post!
Its a great song. When I first started as a KJ, I thought ah great, I haven't heard this song in ages! But like anything I guess, once you've heard it over & over & over & over & over...
Angels by Robbie Williams is probably the most cheesy song for all the crooners at my shows. You just know he's trying to impress the ladies!
Not sure how well known Robbie is accross the pond, but good as it may be, if I never heard that song again, I wouldn't be too disappointed.
Generally, I find that the worse a song gets butchered, the more fun it is to watch!

There are a lot of Frank Sinatra Fans where I live and if I never hear "My Way" or "Summer Wind" again at Karaoke it would be alright with me!

You'll find that Gemini has his own ideas on what karaoke should be. Like the rest of us, he's quite opinionated.
Most of us agree with lesser or greater degrees on the basics, and even how a show should be ran. I just think that small podunk two stoplight town has nobody else to challenge him, and so Gemini can make or break his own rules as he sees fit.
I wanted to come to his show to even WATCH and he's banned me... so take his opinion for what it's worth!
