I didn't really need dollar amounts because they can be so different from location to location. What I offer for my mobile DJ service could be doubled in other parts of the country.

Shucks. Here I was going to quit my day job and just work 1 night a week.
Another question for all of you. When you say weddings, are you also providing DJ/MC services too or is it just karaoke?

Most weddings are mostly DJ and MC, with "sets" of Karaoke. This keeps it elegant and special, while still letting loose a bit to sing for those who are fans.
The exception are the more "casual" weddings, where anything goes. I do find that the average KJ who has never DJ'd has trouble keeping weddings flowing and from seeming like a regular bar night. This is not a slam against anyone here, so please don't get on the defensive. We have people who work for us that are fantastic KJs, but I would never put them on a wedding because it takes a great deal of DJ experience to do it properly.

I take no offense in that, and agree wholeheartedly. That is also why I will turn down any potential client who wants to hire my services for a Wedding. I am not equipped to DJ, and I'm not interested in trying to learn. Personally, I can't see having Karaoke at a wedding (as the main form of entertainment) unless the wedding party consists of soley a Karaoke crowd. I'm not trying to say it shouldn't be offered, just that it would only be a small part of the reception/party.

I agree. I find also, that Karaoke HAS to be done in sets at a Wedding or even a Birthday, otherwise it fragments the Dancing. And we ALL love to dance at a Wedding!!

The price I charge for a party depends on how busy I am. If my calendar is empty, I would rather get the gig at a lower price than have no gig at all.
Kinda like how the airlines price seats.

Hmmm... I'd rather have no gig at all, because selling myself short can quickly turn into a regular thing as word gets around that you're cheap.
Almost all of the extra work I get is word of mouth, and if I charge a cheap rate one time I'd have to keep doing it!
I'm WORTH the money, and anyone who has enough money to rent out a hall, and pay a caterer can afford me. Go cheap, you get what you pay for. I invite people not to take my word for it, come to my show and see what they are buying... Those that do lay out the cash.
I've spent a lot of money on music and equipment, and I work very hard to make my private gigs memorable experiences for all those involved... and I communicate this to perspective clients. I show them the computer, and how the show will be run, I show them pictures from my private gigs and bar shows, and generally sell myself.
