Ordered my discs on April 1. They NEVER arrived.

I couldn't find their toll-free ph#, which they mention they have during the process of providing and recommending that it's best to e-mail them

I didn't have a problem even though I was VERY Worried originally. My first order showed up in only 3 days (AMAZ?ING), however my second order which was larger took about 7 days, which is decent compared to the other services I use. The first shipment was the FASTEST I ever had, however on average I would say AceKaraoke is pretty consistant!

I plan to buy about 7 more disc from them when I get some more money, I wanted to pick up some more R&B stuff which I have a very limited selection on. I just learned from pure ignorance that R&B is NOT Rap, I don't do any Hardcore Rap with Explicit Lyrics, or any Hardcore Metal with Explicit Lyrics. I was always told it was the same, so I just avoided it all. NOW I feel like an idiot, Alicia Keyes IS NOT RAP, etc. etc.

I waited 10 days after placing the order before I reacted. I hope you are right that I can still expect it to arrive. I really wanted those Karaoke Bay discs!

I can only speak for myself, I got 2 orders from them already, and placing one more. But you NEVER KNOW nowadays, sometimes good companies go bad. So I HOPE you can still expect them, but I don't know. I will WAIT until you confirm you receive your package before I place my next order. Good Luck!!!

Just got to thinking, Eric. When I ordered from them I immediately recieved a "Thank You" email and a Payment confirmation email followed shortly by a third that notified me of shipping. If you didn't get all those, maybe the order didn't go through.

GREAT to here this, you had us worried for a minute, or at least me. I am placing another order today. I also checked out the Buy.com, but I didn't like the shipping charge on everything. All of the karaoke on dollarstorejunkie.com is $3.99 or $4.99 with free shipping on orders of $30 or more, the shipping alone on buy.com is $2.98 per disc. That is the ONLY reason I don't like ebay.com when it comes to buying karaoke, because they have really low prices but if you do the math the shipping is more then the disc, and you usually end up paying $6 or $7 each on discount disc. This is why I usually take advantage when other karaoke sites have FREE shipping deals. This is why I really am enjoying their site, however I just wish dollarstorejunkie.com had a little more selection it looks like they only have around 100 to 150 disc. I guess you can't win them all.

I don't know about $2.98 shipping at Buy.com? It appears to be $1.98 or free!

So, for example, DooWop.com never charges for shipping and usually has reasonable prices. They want $13.99 for HS Musical 3.

Buy.com wants less than $9.00, with shipping!

that's how Doowop has always been. THey have their discs about a buck or so more than everyone else, but they don't charge shipping.

And that helps a lot when you order a LOT of discs... where some retailers will really hit you bad with the shipping and handling charges!

THANKS for the DooWop.com tip, didn't really think about it like that before. I am going to pick up a couple things. As far as the Buy.com tip, they have all kinds of people selling Disc on there, so every item has a separate shipping charge, unless you get lucky and find something directly from them. I put 10 disc from $2.00 to $7.00 each in my cart and it came to $23.00 in shipping.

I notice Dollar Store Junkie is having a sale, 10% off orders of $100 or more. This kind of SUCKS, because I have spent around $120 total so far. I really don't need $100 more of their stuff. I have been just spending enough to get the free shipping on every order.

So here is my question, has any of you KJ's ever offered disc for sale to some of your customers? I get request all the time, but have never even thought of selling anything I buy. I was thinking I could make some orders during the sale and get the 10% and free shipping and selling the rest for a nice profit. I know which titles the people that have approached me in the past would buy, however I am not sure if this would be unprofessional or not. What do you think?

There is no reason, theoretically, why it can't work.

However... how would you determine what to buy?
Would you work strictly from inventory .. or are you planning to strictly make purchases on request; or a combination of both?

If you plan to do it by request it will create many more "bookkeeping" challenges than working from inventory.

But, working strictly from inventory means you have to invest in product and hope you have the right selection!

I'll be happy to discuss it further with you as you formulate how you might want to do it! I am assuming you believe that there is enough demand and an inadequate supply in your area for CDG's!

I was thinking I would just go by the request for certain songs I have received so far. Basically many of my more recent regulars would like to practice new songs at home, so I was thinking I would just buy extras on titles that have songs I get the most request for, or I get special request. I am CERTAIN I could sell them for $5 or $6 but I was thinking of more like $8 to $10 each. With there current deal I could get them for between $3.60 and $4.50 each with free shipping, so I could double my money which would be a pretty good side profit. Also NO ONE in my area sells Karaoke for less than $10 each no matter what brand it is.

I thought about it before, but didn't do it because I was considering an assorted package on ebay.com that was very cheap, however it was totally random, and I figured they would probably just send me their JUNK! So this way I could pick what I want, and worst case, I could just give away any extra's I don't sell as gifts, which is what I usually give as gifts anyway. My kids and grandkids LOVE my Karaoke presents, so if I decide after a month or so, it is either not worth it, or they don't sell good, that would be my out.

I am really just wondering if this is something that has been done before, and would it be unprofessional?

I just notice dollar store junkie put up some new titles, I picked up a few, including a christian disc, a couple latin disc, and most importantly a Grease Karaoke Bay disc I was looking for at a cheap price, the last time I saw it was on ebay for $8 plus $6 s/h.

As far as the latin Karaoke, has anyone had any experience with a mostly latin crowd? I was invited to do a show that was said to be around 70% latino, but I was afraid I would not be able to pull it off, so I turned it down. Just curious

Just Curious, who selected the poll option "Between $10 & $25 per Hour"? Is it really that bad in some areas?

I realize it is getting harder and harder for gigs to pay a good fee, with the exception of private parties, but is it really that bad in some places?

That might have been me. We get the same as the barmaid--minimum wage plus tips but ofcourse she gets more tips than we do--although if it is a really busy night the bar owner has tipped us $100. We made $83 last Sat.

We didn't start out to do it that way--got hired at $100/night when we had a combo singer/karaoke show. But our singer took off and the owner had tried karaoke on a Sat and didn't think it would work. He "let" us try to see what we could do. The moment we start getting in consistant crowds, it will be renegotiation or walk time but so far we are bringing in half the people that come on Fridays (we average 15). I say each week we should admit defeat but then we get a group of people in and I give it yet another try.

In our area the bar down the road just cancelled their karaoke, the casino moved theirs to a week night and brought in a DJ, same for the better restaurant in town. One place went under totally, one is for sale but still having karaoke, one that showed interest decided to go DJ and keep it in-house, another keeps putting off doing anything, and I just remembered one more bar that used to have karaoke but quit it last summer. We had a nibble from another place but nothing concrete yet. We will be getting a birthday party via one of our regulars.

Our show has been visited by at least 6 former karaoke hosts in the past few months. Karaoke seems to be going by the wayside except for parties and events. Everyone is going DJ. I don't know if the DJs are doing better--I think things in general are down so the owners are seeing if a switch helps.

WOW that is really tough! Also, I really don't think DJs are doing better, I just think they are accepting less, because they can. In the last 2 places I have lived and done business the DJs will work for just about NOTHING! They are usually really desperate, especially now days when just about anyone can be a DJ.

A friend of mine works as a DJ at one of the casinos and gets $400/night. But he does huge rooms and is very much established with a good rep. Another friend is just starting out DJing and is only getting intermittant work.

I should say I answered in the low category because we ARE doing that now but I would not accept another job under those terms.

I received the following email from Dollar Store Junkie a few minutes ago "Attention Newsletter Subscribers

We are having a 2-Day Mothers Day Sale! You will automatically receive an additional 15% Off on orders of $100 or more, to go along with our Free Shipping on orders of $30 or more. This Major Savings Mothers Day Sale will be available until Midnight Tuesday 05/05/09"

GREAT DEAL! However I am not sure I can find enough to get another $100 worth, or $85 after the discount, Oh Boy!!!

Looks like these guys are teamed up with Amazon.com now. I went to pick up a couple Boot Kickin Country Karaoke CDs from Dollarstorejunkie.com today, and I noticed the site looked different and when I was checking out it had a message they there are now teamed up with Amazon.com.

The prices are still pretty good, but they now have Free Shipping on orders of $25 or more. Anyone hear about this? I know Toys R Us did something similar a couple years ago.
