Update: We sent the machine to an authorized service center and they said the laser was going and they couldn't get replacement parts any more and it's done.

They usually just go out, but they do get out of alignement(spelling?)....if you think it's toast, try pushing it's base(since most are fixed, and have no way to adjust), and see if the new postion helps...most can be moved a bit....Sometimes I've used a screw or makeshift wedge to keep it where it worked good....but that's not always possible.....has to be something ther to back it, and can't be in the way of any player movement....did they charge you for looking at it?....for 20 bucks a pop to look at something......you don't really need to fix anything....especially if there's no money in fixing most electronics these days......I can't fix it...that'll be $20..... :)

There was no charge. We had the thing apart and couldn't get at the laser which is why we sent it in. The place that repaired our Pioneer manages to do the repairs on extinct machines no matter what but they don't work on JVCs and the JVC authorized repair place was not as enthusiastic.

So many jokes...so little time. :P

I was always told to clean my "laser" with lot of soap and water. Especially if it had been somewhere new that night.

You too? Glad I'm not the only one that got a chuckle off this question lol
