Oh I too am ex-military(actually still military but on "retainer")--A retired Navy Chief. So yes the uniform and medals are offensive to me on someone who was never a service member.

Babs, I've been in retail sales for 20 years, and one thing I've learned is how to read people. The description of his behavior is setting off all kinds of alarm bells to me, and I suggest you get this guy out of your show ASAP!!
This is not a time to play the hostess and be nice, do what you have to do to get rid of him. IMHO he's a danger to you and those in the bar.
He's not banned for being annoying, he's banned for being a disruption... there's a difference. I would work it like this:
Get the owner to understand your concerns... and have someone on the barstaff tell him he's not welcome.
If you elect to tell him yourself, get two of the biggest guys in the bar to be near you, and say: "I'm sorry, but I can't accept your song submission, you're not welcome to sing in my show." Then move on... look him directly in the eye, do not smile. Then go do other things.
I would not choose the later method, this guy may have issues with women... which based on your description is what it sounds like... its a control thing for him.
You can not ignore this either... it will esculate... nip it in the bud before something happens!!

I'm with KK on this, Babs - the bar needs to 86 this guy - he is BAD for business. I would not want to have anything to do with the ejection, myself, as because it is true, he may have control issues with women and you do NOT want to be on the receiving end of that.
We also have a 'problem' singer at one of our shows - not because this person is as annoying and disruptive as that, but this singer is mentally challenged. As much as I am for equal rights, if a person makes an entire room uncomfortable and it starts to have an effect on attendance and the total at the end of the night, something should be done. We just haven't figured out how to do this yet. Thankfully our problem is not nearly as serious as yours which is why we apparently have failed to move on it yet. I don't think anyone wants to be the 'bad guy' in our situation, but I'd say in your situation the bar owner/manager needs to take over and solve the problem.

I would flat refuse to accept his songs. If he asks why just tell him you are tired of playing his games and he has not only offended you and your co-workers, but has continued to do so after being asked not to and you are not willing to put up with his behavior any longer.
Tell him Karaoke is a privilege can be revoked if the customers behavior disrupts the show, and your behavior towards me and others has gone too far, so you are cut off from karaoke here indefinitely. For now your bar privileges are still intact but that depends on his behavior in the future. As for Karaoke you are done. Give him a blank look and then move away and continue your show.
Of course I would tell the bartender what you are doing so she can be there to back you up it it gets confrontational. Also let a couple of your regulars (guys) know what you are doing so they can be ready for it if you need backup as well.
I betcha the local American Legion or VFW post would love to assist you in dealing with a man posing as a veteran in uniform. That is not a bad idea either.
I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this sort of behavior, and hope you can get it resolved right away. Keep us updated.

I did not read this thead but this old vet would put him in his place in 2 minites. One of the biggest brawls I was ever in was when a civilain was wearing a dirty sailor's white hat. I had about 10 mexicans in a standoff until a bunch of vets stood up.
I would shut the music off and with a wireless mic be in his face and escort him to the nearest exit. That would not fly here.

I have spoken with two of the bartenders and will address it with the rest. I told them that the next time this man comes into the bar I will not allow him to sing and why. I want them to be ready for any crazy behavior he may portray.
I haven't had a bouncer for a while because the bar patrons are a better breed than they used to be. But I will make sure I have back up near by in case I have any problems.
Wish me luck and thank you !

Good luck Babs and you really don't need a bouncer just a couple of good old GI's.

Maybe between you and the bartenders, you could buy the nice (real)Vets a drink, and maybe they could even sing a song or two. Make sure they let the imposter know they'll be coming around often, now that they've found this place, which might actually turn out to be true.......he'll have to find some place else to commit his fraud........good luck........Greg
This was gonna be my suggestion Babs...but to be honest(and I've been there as a lady KJ too) you are right to be cautious with the guy. He's acting like he has some sort of chemical imbalance. Which, if true, makes him at least "unpredictable and illogical" neither of these things lend themselves to management based on polite & courteous approach or logical explanation of the problem.
I'm thinking a few strong words of warning from some real military folks should do the trick-perhaps one could even do it on a mic- he will be embarrassed and probably won't be inclined to come back to the place of his humiliation- and you come out smelling like a rose.
You do have to be more cautious than male KJ's do because men like this jerk aren't a threatened by you- not do they respect your authority as they should. Though it sounds like this guy would be the same with a man as he is with you. A guy like him made me quit running karaoke completely. I think I'll post the story in a different thread...bottom line tread cautiously, get your magagers support, and get this guy in line.

Yep, my only concern with this nut case is that once he walks out the door, he doesn't come back, he doesn't hang around outside, he's just gone.

I have banned a singer for the night from singing before because they broke the rules, but this guy is just annoying as heck. I just don't know how I would handle it. Your banned from singing because your annoying?
The owner is wierd about kicking people out. I could ask, but I know he wouldn't do it. The manager I know would love to get rid of this guy, but she has to also get permission from the owner. Just let the Manager explain it to the owner in a way, he will agree to ban him. Like "We're losing a lot of business because of him, people start to leave when he walks in" or something like it.

He needs his THORAZINE and HALDOL.
And having him removed--DONT INVOLVE OTHER CUSTIES or MILITARY CUSTIES or ANY CUSTIES.
This is for STRICTLY MANAGEMENT and SECURITY to deal with.
Besides if an incident happens then both the bar and THE CUSTIES involved may be on the hook for LIABILITY!!!
SO DO NOT INVOLVE ANY OTHER CUSTIES AT ALL.
THEY ARE THERE AS CUSTIES ONLY.
NOT AS THE BAR's HIRED BONDED SECURITY TEAM.
If he abolutely wont leave and becomes belligerent then bar staff should call police and have him remove as an undesireable troublemaker.
