Oh It's On! Why not come to Wisconsin where I can introduce you to some Muskie and Northern Pike fish. They eat trout for a snack.

Scared of me bringing my flyrod, are ya? Ok, you're on. I'll try not to shame you too bad. (but, i AM taking photos) Quote: Oh It's On! Why not come to Wisconsin where I can introduce you to some Muskie and Northern Pike fish. They eat trout for a snack.
Ok, you're on too. Though I have absolutely no idea what a muskie is. (?) I'm a trout, bass, catfish kinda gal. But I'm always up for something new.
So, me and Kurt will start in Estacada, Oregon and fish our way to Wisconsin, all the while videoing it... hmmm, wonder if we could sell that to cable tv? Or, at the least, America's Funniest Videos.

Yes muskie and pike are some KILLER fish!! Wisconsin/Minnesota FAMOUS for them.
AND they are fine...............if you like SMALL FISH!!
So lets not fool around anymore and lets go after SOME REAL FISH----COLUMBIA RIVER WHITE STURGEON!
Have a look:
http://www.nwfish.com/Sturgeon/sturgeon_fisheries.htm
Read the section on "NEWSFLASH"
I havent been out on a boat out in the main channel, jsut off the bank--so largest one Ive caught is 48 Inches---a smaller sized keeper.
But the fish in the pics are out there all over the place waiting to be caught. I catch smaller ones right in downtown Portland on the Willamette River. Just havent hooked up a real large one yet.
Dont even have to drive 5 mins from my house.
Couple this with famous Chinook Salmon, Steelhead, Shad runs and a WORLD CLASS Smallmouth Bass fishery all along the Columbia and all its tributarie rivers and its SIMPLY AMAZING what we have here.
And YES I would LOVE to catch a big MUSKIE--they are VISCIOUS!!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

I also wonder if the same people come every week? There have been some theories offered so I'll guess the johns are filthy and by midnite everyone is running out to take a wiz where the johns are clean?

There are several factors. For example after happy hour folks are hammered so they leave. We have had nights where they were staying 2-3 hours and leaving and before you knew it the seats were full again. Sometimes in the last hour it slows down and it is welcomed by staff because they can start cleaning. It beats calling last call and you are still packed. Remember they have to restock and they still have a job to do.
Personally the biggest factor with me is this. I never drink and drive but the cops are just like everybody else. A denny's mngr will cruise around the bars look at the parking lots and estimate their business. Believe me they have it down to a science. Most here leave to beat the red lights on the way home. When the cops adjust then so do we.
On a week night everybody leaves early because they work for a living. The KJ?DJ show is only one piece of the pie.It takes a well dedicated and coordinated effort from the owner on down to the swamper. To those who dont know what a swamper is he is that old fart you might see in there any any time of day, knows everybody and whats going on and does the deep cleaning after everybody is gone.
In any business when somebody is not up to par for any reason his coworkers pick up the slack because they know when they need it it is there. A good crew will not have a real bad KJ/DJ for long. So when you say that a KJ is driving business away at any time I do know that there are more factors involved.
I can put up with a substandard KJ or system but it is the ambience of the place and what the staff is doing and the price of drinks. I can shift to pool or darts or do all. Now whether you believe it or not that is how 95% of the public feels in a karaoke bar.
When I am talking to a divocee and she is telling me about her previous marriage I listen for the word I or we. If she says we did this or we did that then I like her. If it is I all the time then bye. There are too many I"S here self included. we need more we's.

Sorry Ollie. I did read your serious post.
I'll quit now, I just couldn't let him have the last word, especially after that comment about the 6" trout:)
I'll drop it, and just see you all back here when all is said & done... with my fish pics.
(and i'll throw in a couple of Kurt's empty creel just to prove my point)
Love those pics, btw, nice place for a flyrod:)

Yes muskie and pike are VISCIOUS and have VISCOUS teeth ---the better to grab small mammals or waterfowl that fall on or swim in the water!!
Bonita----yes VERY EDIBLE---very similiar to a small tuna! And are just TORPEDOS when hooked! Can catch them off the piers in season in southern cali--like redondo beach peir----great place to Bonita fish--use live ANCHOVIES as bait.

Speaking of flyrods-----hey i read an article in the NW Fishing and Hunting news(the one u get at the gas station) about FLY FISHING FOR CARP in the middle of the day in the middle of summer. Seems they mill about reeds near the shore and will take a pattern resembling mud grubs or emergers. NOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE FUN!! a 25lb carp fish on a fly rod!!!!
I think ill give it a try out by Rooster Rock park and see if it actually works!

The bar is empty by midnight because everyone has to get up early the next day to go fishing.

Ha! My town's high school nickname is the Muskies.
By the way, I can walk and within 15 minutes or bike in 5 and be fishing for giant channel cat in the mightiest river of 'em all! Yummy, fried catfish cooked to perfection, falling off the bone? Mmmmm.
