Sonic,

I have Virtual DJ. You can get a Script to automate that 'Effect Controller' from VDJ.

Ehh Humm, Don't tell them it's for a "Default Background".
Just get it and set it as a default background.

Nobody actually believes that story do they?

Something for nothing is a myth. It doesn't exist.

Everyone knows right from wrong. Piracy didn't just start yesterday.

I smell a pirate.

Not necessarily, it could be he was grossly misinformed into believing it was ok to copy one set for multiple rigs.

I have been using Latshaw's Songlist Genorator for a while and I love it. If your files are organized well and titled in the same manner you can eliminate all the duplicates in your book. I set my books up in a 4 columns per page which makes a much more thin book and saves on printing costs. You can also export the book file to multiple formats. I use PDF because you can just take those files on a thumbdrive to any print shop and print them.

I prefer to use binders with protective plastic sleeves. As I add new additions (which i do monthly) I add those pages to the front and title them on the top (using Latshaw) with the month added. In January of each year I redo all the books, importing all the new additions from the previos year into the full library. Having books made and binded is expensive and limits you from adding pages if wanted. The downside of binders is having to stuff them but that usually takes a few hours, once per year.

As for your mutiple rigs and one paid copy are concerned. Listen to the posts of those above. Manufacturers like Sound Choice are trying to go after multi-riggers as we speak in Arizona and others like Chartbusters and Stellar Records (Pop Hits Monthly) are said to follow suit nation wide if SC is successful. Their methods for fighting piracy is laughable and they IMHO will be laughed out of court but they are trying and are extremely inconviencing some legit KJs.

Actually they do. There are many areas of piracy that folks just don't think about. Read the first post I ever made. I was letting my singers borrow my cd's, not realizing I was doing anything wrong. Lucky for me, I was easily able to remedy my situation. Besides, why would a person come to a forum and basically tell everyone on it that they are not legal if they knew better? Laws are not exactly written in easy to understand verbage. Therefore, are often misinterpreted.

That's why the forum is a great place to be!! We inform those who don't know. In a business as "cutthroat" as karaoke seems to be for some KJs out there, the strongest, most effective power we have to combat it here is to inform those of the law and let them know how piracy effects the business as a whole. Many just don't know.

As far as buykaraokedownloads is concerned, I don't know how legal it is or not. What I do know is that I can prove I bought tracks from them. If they haven't done their job to be legal in selling them, it is not my fault and I don't accept blame for that. It's not like they post it for the public, so how are we suppose to know? I don't research a company's legality when I buy their track from Wal-Mart. So I wouldn't worry too much about that part.

Unfortunately not knowing is not an excuse in the eyes of the law. For example if you unknowingly buy stolen goods, you can be charged with possession of stolen goods. I have seen people who have bought vehicles (including dealers) that were stolen. All the paperwork was forged and it appeared legit, but those who bought them, had them seized and were not compensated for their loss. They had to sue the thief but since the thief had no money and going to jail for quite a while suing was useless. So no vehicle and no money.

and our ongoing discussions are proof at least NOW that buykaraokedownloads may not be legit. If you continue to purchase from them and this site is used as evidence against you in a future lawsuit or penal action...

It isn't legit. They have music from Canadian manufacturers, who have never given permission to anyone to sell their material as a download. How do I know this? Because I have spoken to them. They are in fact starting to check site and take legal action.

I agree!
Sad how some of those 'Sites" are out of U.S. jurisdiction and sneak in through different names and start it all over again.

They even have right in their end user terms of use that no content (including downloaded material) shall be used commercially.

Lonnie, even so, they are selling or offering to sell material that is not theirs.

Right but what I was getting at it even though they most likely aren't authorized to sell these downloads in the firstplace, kj's are buying them under the assumption that they can use them in their commercial show. Even if the downloads were legal, they still can't be used in the kj's show.

First of, thanks to everyone that has guided me in the right direction not only for what the topic was originally created for, but also for clarifying laws and what not with ASCAP/BMI. On that note, I'ma reply to a few things...

Lonnie's turned many of us hard liners around in that some people may be ignorant of the legal standing of their stances on duplication in the karaoke world.

Best of luck to you sonick!

I knew nothing of the legalities of copy right until I joined this forum and was shocked how many other KJ friends had no idea what was going on when I'd bring it up. It actually doesn't surprise me he didn't know.

I also wish you the best of luck Sonick !

I'm sure the new song list creation programs can make mince meat out of a big project, but if you have Word and Excel (or OpenOffice - it's free), you can make a decent book. I copy and paste the song lists for each disc off the web into excel. Then I arrange the columns the way I want them (title 1st or artist 1st). Then I paste it into Word. It comes up as a table that you can edit further. Set you total width to 4.5" and your paper to landscape. Set for two columns and it comes out looking great and easy to read. You can add headers and footers with page numbers, too.

This will take a little time, or you can spend the bucks!

Happy computing!!
