When we're really busy i say things like "Well mondays we have more duet singers coming out and we have fun trying out my new musical and broadway karaoke selections".

and "tuesdays are more R&B night around here and we do more love songs and ballads then".

and "fridays are usually the younger crowds doing new pop and hip hop, while saturdays are more country and millitary families coming out."

I imply the different genres and it works. Of course everyone can sing whatever they want any given night, but i seem to have a few singers that prefer genres coming out on those nights only. -just a thought.

Cater to a different crowd if you can and get the bar to get their alcohol vendors to cough up lots of free giveaways on your slow nights. Good Luck Babs!

Thank you for all your responses !

The bar does advertise karaoke.

I have never announced on the microphone that Saturdays you can sing more. I usually just announce I'm there Wed and Sat too. I'm going to do that and see what happens.

Part of this I believe is because it's summer and our prices just went up becuase of taxes. A lot of people who would have come both nights are staying home. Non drinkers are getting hurt the worst with the prices. $3.75 for a glass of cranberry juice - $2 for a cup of coffee (3 refills free after) I only have a couple nondrinkers. They aren't really a problem, so I don't know why the owner is doing this.

I do get different people on Saturdays, but they are the same type of crowd.

Sept is transition time here in the NW corner of the country -- tonight I will start a draw at almost the end of the show of the singer's slips - whomever is the lucky singer, half their tab will be comped -- just a little incentive to come in and sing.

Try a Bike Night, I host a bike night on saturdays, and it is far from slow.

We are in the same boat. Fridays are always the big night and then we struggle on Sats--meaning less people in the bar.

One suggestion, for this year anyway, is that Halloween is on a Sat. A big party might be a good way to attract some new people to the night. That's what we are workingn on at the moment.

Good question !

It is a small venue and usually very few people are there unless there is karaoke. Maybe 5 people. So figure the entire crowd is karaaoke.

A slow night is 6-10 singers. Add 5 to that for people who are just there normally. I've had 2 nights like this in a month and a half. The other Saturdays during that time span were just okay, maybe 20 singers. Aaarg ! Of course on a busy night I'll have more non-singers that singers bring along with them. Karaoke pretty much is the crowd for this venue.
