Lonman - I'm actually in New Zealand, so there's obviously quite a heavy British influence here so it'd explain why Wharfedale is available.

As I'm starting out and obviously am on a budget, I'm going for the Wharfedale's - a single 400w active speaker is $800 NZD here, vs $2300 for a single 450w active JBL for example.

For comparison, Wharfdales are equivalent to Sonic in the USA. Neongreen, Morgan Lefey is a Kiwi like yerself. NZ is a big place but maybe you'll meet.

Somewhere along the line you have been grossly misinformed about the type of equipment needed to put on a professional karaoke show.

You need to regroup with an equipment upgrade, test it and learn how to operate it flawlessly.

If you have seen any karaoke shows and thought ..wow that looks easy. No the KJ was good and made it look easy. It's harder than it looks.

Dealing with crazy bar owners is only one problem. Then add in the drunks and jerks.

Take a step backwards and evaluate your situation. Come up with a solution. Maybe somemore time watching other KJs. Start talking to them and pick their brain.

Hello,

you definately need to have the bar committ to multiple weeks and my suggestion is to offer them a price break for the first ... 4 to 6 weeks. THEN FULL PRICE. Also, I will tell the bar that I will NOT start for them next tuesday. I will start for them 1 MONTH from next tuesday.

I am a firm beliver in building the market and crowd. Do that with advertising and letting the bar and staff have time to talk you up to EVERY customer that comes in.

Sure you don't have a gig for a month but you have a better opportunity to have good kick off.

If you are working other shows, make sure you tell your regulars to come and support you at the new place.

Jason
