Now that show looks like a lot of fun!
Nice set-up, Lon.
I'd love to see your show in person but I don't think I could handle the commute.

Congrats on all of the rave reviews Lonman. Looks like EVERYONE had a great time! On a sidenote: SEE, this is how I picture KARAOKE. Singers, Hosts, Audience ALL having FUN. So many times people are focusing on the NEGATIVE. THIS thread PROVES that karaoke isn't always cutthroat, and vicious as some people would have us think. If you have the RIGHT mindset, and the RIGHT people, THIS is what the outcome is. KUDO'S to ALL of you.

I think Lonnie should create an on-line instruction course on KJ'ing. I know a lot of us could contribute our insights, too....I'll bet there are people who would be willing to check it out...and maybe LEARN something?

Simple things, really, that make this a great show - great equipment and sound system (SM58s for singers), a designated stage with lights, quick loading of music, great bumper music, easy to read big screens for the audience, ability to play singers' discs (I took one with me - nobody EVER seems to have "Guilty" by Bonnie Raitt), lots of parking, security in the lot, and a host who doesn't ever have to say "NO" to anybody. No treating singers like kindergarteners (if you know you're next, why NOT go up to the stage and be ready?)

I think your crowd reacts to your hosting style -- positively and negatively but in this case very positively. I had several people come up to me and thank me for doing such a great job on my songs. Several asked if I could PLEASE e-mail them pics since I was sitting there snapping pics. Just all in all a really great experience. Thanks again Lonnie.

I'm hopin' you'll get up my way soon so I can show you the same great time at my show!

K

Speaking of EVERYBODY having a good time.............................In particular THE HOST:

Again NOW LISTEN UP: In the pic of the singer with Lonnie in the background--you will notice he's GROOVIN' to the song that's being played. He's like that on EVERY SONG THATS PLAYED.

Now here's the deal----IT IS CRUCIAL that the host is involved, groovin, paying attention, bobbin along----becuase each and every singer will be glancing over to see if the KJ IS WITH THEM ON THE SONG!!!

If he KJ is NOT with the singer on the song be-boppin along with them then the singer becomes even more inscure and feels even more alone and isolated on stage. If they can glance over and see the KJ then they know he's with them and wont let them fall(so to speak---like a little kid on a training wheel bike). The KJ is thier security blanket. If they see he's with them and wont let them fall---then they feel safe getting up on stage and know they will SUCCEED!!

It is ABSOLUETLY CRUCIAL and IS KEY TO BUILDING THE BOND BETWEEN SINGER AND KJ!!

And Lonnie is the master of this-----by simply groovin along to the song thats being sung and being there for the singer instead of wandering off, reading a magazine, having a smoke, texting on the blackberry, yakking on the cell, or fooling around on the web connected lappy INSTEAD OF PAYING ATTENTION TO THE MIX, THE CROWD AND THE SINGER!!!

SHHHHH! Don't be givin' away anybody's secrets here.... BTW there must be the typical bad kids in this class, then, because I've witnessed a lot of shows lately that don't follow the Lonnie Doctrine.

Over the top??? Never EVER!! I simply REPORT what I see! "Just the facts, Ma'am!!"

And actually I write in a very neutral and unbiased style. If it seems "Over enthusiastic", that's because I include many DETAILS that others miss!!

As to you Miss Charm--------"OVER THE TOP"................WELL BABY..............You never complained before and always CRIED OUT FOR MORE!!!!

HAHAHAHAHA!!!
