Can't understand why the laptop would have vga out if it couldn't extend to an external monitor...??..have you tried connecting an external monitor then going to screen properties? Once connected you should be offered the chance to "extend your desktop to the 2nd screen.
because the VGA out could be used to connect to an external monitor or projector to display instead of the laptop display. Dual monitor capability allows different displays on 2 different monitors simultaneously, i.e. karaoke display for singers.
?? Once you extend your desktop to the second monitor, then your host program's Karaoke display then just needs dragging across to the second screen, and stretching to fit, thus giving you two different screens. If you want ANOTHER screen (3)...then just use a VGA splitter. Confused now.....
Video cards on older laptops (and older versions of the Windows OS) didn't support "extending" your desktop to a second display. They still had a VGA output that allowed you to connect an external monitor or projector to the laptop and it would receive the same signal as the laptop's display. This was to allow for presentations and such. Microsoft introduced extended desktop with Windows 98 (and Windows 2000 for those previously in the NT world). However, it took quite a while before video cards started supporting it. It wasn't until Windows XP that it really took off. So there are lots of laptops out there with a VGA output but no extended desktop support.
