Funny one Mimi. I think I'll put a blonde wig and a really ugly big bra in my stuff somewhere just for such an occasion. Actually, the places I work there is never a question -- if I suggest to the bartender that someone is too drunk, she will find friends of the drunk and prompt them to get the perpetrator off the stage and out the door or they'll all be gone. PERIOD. No more for anyone. I can't say I've ever had a problem getting a drunk off the stage but it could have something to do with the maturity level of the people who come to our show. (Wait, I have used the firm grip on the upper arm, especially with the thumb very firmly implanted underneath ... )
Maybe it is an area thing with karaoke friendly bartenders that will back their hosts up & help kick the offenders off the stage and possibly out the bar. Like I said, i've never had a problem getting someone off stage that shouldn't be there, and the bartender was nothing more than a 'little girl'. What they say goes 9 out of 10 times.

I usually say something like:

As a friend I have to let you know you've had to much to drink to sing. You seem like a very nice person and I am only trying to help you. You can sing next time you come in.

I have to say I was nervous the first few times I had to do it. Even if I just met them I call them a friend. It seems to make them realize I'm not trying to be mean and I am thinking of them. I usually I get a blank look from them and they walk away. Many times I've gotten thank yous when they've come back in.

I only call for help when someone is giving me a hard time and I can't handle them myself. It's been a long time since that's happened. Some of these people are regulars that just don't realize they've had to much to drink. I don't need to call in the cavalry to deal with them.

I agree though if your dealing with a unruly drunk you should not put yourself in dangers way.
