"Brats, get your hot juicy brats right here".

"Hey what kind do you have? Do you have Johnsonville?"

"I don't know what kind it is, what does it matter? Just EAT it, one brand is just as good as the other brand!"

"Yeah, that makes sense to me! I want two of them, YUM!"

No reason NOT to put the manu in the books. Even for a pirate, whether it's in there or not, an auditor/investigator will find them. While I will agree in my area, the average singer doesn't know the difference, I get my share of those that know.

I have been to a couple of shows where the host put everything that exists on karaoke in their books, whether they have it or not. I guess they use their books as reference points as much as guides for the show. It also seems that might help with getting a song for someone if they don't have it. Guess seeing it in a book and them not having it could be a bit of a bummer, but if that is understood up front, I guess it could be dealt with. I have never seen a system that is fool-proof--guess it is about minimumizing the potential issues as much as possible, which could be relative to one's situation...

Also, it seems that if someone is "brand-conscious", you could put a spot on your slip for "Preferred Brand". If one has it in that brand, they use it. If not, then you move on to the next brand. If they are not "brand-conscious", this spot on the slip will mean nothing to them, and it seems giving them an opportunity to BECOME "brand-conscious" would be more of a headache for all involved...

Have you ever asked a guy at a carnival if the Brats were Johnsonville?? I know I haven't.

I use Latshaw SLG and DO NOT print the manu codes. I have a spot on my song slip for manu preference, but seldom does any one fill it in. Not printing manu's allows me to reduce book size and increase font size.

When I used books, the Artist books were always preferred. I used to print 8 Artist books and 2 Title books. That worked out just fine. I DIDN'T print any brand information in the books, simply for that reason that I had a lot more people confused with the difference than people asking for specific brands. To lay it out, when I used to print the brand information I had at least 2-3 (sometimes even more) people asking me what the difference is per show. When I left the brand out I had one person a month asking for a specific brand. A lot less stress on my end.
I did print a note in the front of the book though to let people know that I do carry different brands and to ask me for them, if needed/wanted.

The above stated worked out the best, before switching to Kiosks and smart phone sign up availability.

I always have posted the manu, but only one. My program allows me to only post one to eliminate dupes in the book and even tell the system which manu to use. Occasionally the singers will ask me if I have another brand and I will let them know. My method keeps the number of pages down but let's the knowing customer what top brand I have and if they don't like that brand, they ask. I've actually had customers tell me that they love how organized my books are: no dupes, no misspellings causing "dumb dupes" and some even adding to that, that I show my best version.

The only way I will change my format is if fastTracks allows me to put all the manus on the same line after a song (ie -cb, phm, sgb, ah, sc).

I like to know what I am buying and so do most people that have a clue.

To me it's just easier to use the manufacturer number. The first two or three letters indicate the manufacturer and then the disc then song number, eg SC8108-01 rather than 0001-01 (because that is the first disc you entered, then 0002-01 for your next disc, etc. With the manufacturer number you have the info for insurance/audit or whatever purposes. Has anyone ever ordered the same disc twice (with a time separation) then discovered, dang I had it?

DANG! I've done that twice with a custom disc (for a single track selection).

By Artist is what I go to as a singer then use By Title as a back up.
By Artist is what I print more of as a KJ. I use a 6-4 ratio currently.

In another thread I have posted a few updates on my laborious process of cleaning up my song books. My "By Artist" book started at 348 pages. I am now down to 282 pages (66 pages eliminated). I have 60 pages left to process before I do a final QA check and then re-print.

I have not checked the page count on my "By Title" books but will post that when I am done.

I have never printed manufacturer ID's. I think it makes for a cleaner looking book. But I have been watching the discussions here and it seems to be about a 50/50 split on whether people like having them, so I may reconsider for the next printing.

I personally have 4 artist and 2 title. Occasionally someone will come up to me with the title book (hate when they fold it backwards so they don't lose their page) and tell me they can't find a particular singer and I have to explain the book is sorted by song title. I'm always very polite and nice about it but,,,,,, REALLY?

Hopefully you'll at least add a manu code of some sort. Nothing worse for a singer thinking they are getting a good version of something when a Music Maestro or Sweet Georgia Brown version pops up on the screen. Happened to me a few times. I quit singing at shows with no manu indicators of some kind.

If those versions are your opinion of "bad" then why would you include them at all? For the patron who purchased and practiced the "bad version" at home?

To me, it doesn't matter if the singer is great, if the music sucks, it sucks....

If you're at someone else's show and you don't see a code, why not just ask them?

For years I included mfg codes.... and got nothing but questions like "what's the difference? (in multiple copies)" Very few of the singers actually cared what mfg it was so I whittled the list down to ONLY those - in my professional judgment - were the best versions/most recognizable to include. And I no longer use codes.

I should have done that years ago... it would have saved a lot of headaches.

I've done just that... and it's been a 50-50 crap-shoot if the KJ was able to answer. Some of these KJs rented their systems from others, and all that they knew, was how to queue up the next song. Then there's that 50 that do know how to check, but then consider me to be either a PITA or a DIVA when I keep coming up to ask what the Manu is this song, and this song, and this song, and this song, etc... I like to have several songs ready to choose from in the night, and others in case I change my mind).

Yep have done that with single custom disc selections. Not entire discs though.
