The song "picture" is very painful for the simple fact that only drunk people sing it. "don't stop believin" is another one

I haven't heard the rose (or nearly any of these songs in this thread) for a while to never.

First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack. Extremely slow and 5 1/2 minutes of agony. You speed it up 15% and it still sounds slow.

"Need You Now" form Lady Antebellum or anything from Adele.
"Need You Now" is deceptively difficult (melody starts on the 2nd, uses the major 7th a lot) but people love it so they try it. Adele's voice is so rich and distinctive, most people try to emulate it and it ends up sounding grotesque.

I get a couple of the people that cannot sing Adele, but do have 4 girls that can nail her. That is a treat, but she don't get sung enough at my shows.

Those are my top (bottom) too- except I call them "Official KJ In The Bathroom Songs" Throw in American Pie with that. I had a couple people do Ray Stevens' "Guitarzan". they did it as well as that song could be done, and it was funny as hell- ONCE. Don't want to hear it again.... ... and Wind Beneath My Wings is usually done by someone who just had a loved one die......

About the only time I cringed was when someone got up to do a song that I was sure they were going to just destroy. Then I'd remind myself there is entertainment value in every performance, smile, and hand them the mic. I once cringed at a private party when this old fellow turned in a Whitney Houston song. I think it was "I Will Always Love You" (which I guess is actually a Dolly Parton song). Anyway, the guy nailed it in his own way. So there was a false cringe.. ha!

My "cringers", and I have a few, are not songs... but people. Those who couldn't carry a tune in a dump truck, or whose timing is always about a half-measure behind, or who scream into the microphone like a banshee.... or, heaven forbid, a combination of all those things.
Take all three of those attributes... add in Meatloaf's "I Would Do Anything For Love"... and I'd be about ready to swallow my gun (if I had one).
Yeah, I have a few clients (I won't call them singers) who can make me cringe just by walking through the door.... but I grin & bear it, cuz that's why they pay us the "big bucks".

I absolutely cringe at American Pie. At karaoke or by the campfire which is even worse because camping that song can turn 20 minutes long.
